Postdoctoral Research Assistant in liquid NMR, Portugal

Applications are open for one (1) fellowship position for Management of Science and Technology (NMR research expert with PhD) with the duration of 1 year, extendable until the end of 2012, at Nuclear Magnetic Resonace Laboratory of Centro de Química da Madeira (CQM/http://cqm.uma.pt), University of Madeira, Madeira Island, Portugal
The successful candidate will support, plans and manage the PTNMR CQM/UMa network site to ensure the most efficient services to internal/external laboratory users, in accordance with the management procedures of the PTNMR agreement established between the institutions that constitute the Portuguese National Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Network (PTNMR) and the FCT-MCTES.

The functions of the Manager of Science and Technology will include:
1) Technical maintenance of the NMR equipment (e. g. cryoliquid refills), optimization, implementation and updating of techniques and procedures.
2) Service management of the NMR equipment:
a. Planning, registration and reports of the equipment allocation time;
b. Support to the financial management;
c. Update and maintenance of the equipment website, including the updating of the online web management tool for NMR scheduling, and coordination with the website of the PTNMR.
3) Promotion of the PTNMR network activities:
a. Collaboration in local training activities;
b. Assist in organizing events integrated into PTNMR;
c. Planning new events.
4) Development and support of research activities in the framework of the Natural Products and Materials Group’s.

SPACEMASTER-Joint European Master in Space Science and Technology, Europe

Erasmus Mundus scholarships will be awarded to students and scholars for each of the five Rounds of SpaceMaster beginning 2010-2014. The scholarships are available for EU and non-EU students. The number of scholarships for each Round will be defined by the EU Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA).

* EM scholarship amount for Category A* is 32000 EUR (after deduction of the tuition fees for 2 years) and includes:
o contribution to travel, installation and any other type of costs of 8000 EUR for two years of studies;
o monthly allowance of 1000 EUR during 22 study months and 2 months internship at a partner university or associate member during the first year
* EM scholarship amount for Category B** is 15000 EUR (after deduction of the tuition fees for 2 years) and includes:
o mobility grant of 3000 EUR for travel to a Third Country partner university;
o monthly allowance of 500 EUR during 22 study months and 2 months internship at a partner university or associate member during the first year

* Category A: students who come from a country other than an EU Member State, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway and who are not residents nor have carried out their main activity (studies, training or work) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in one of these countries
** Category B: students who do not fulfill the Category A criteria

Erasmus Mundus Application Limit
Do notice that for the academic year 2011-12, there is a maximum limit of THREE applications per student for Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses, according to the latest Call for Proposals (EAC/04/09). In the case that a student applies to more than three EM Courses he/she will be excluded from the selection for an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship.

Templeton Foundation and Center for the Philosophy of Religion at Notre Dame Invite Applications for Residential Fellowships, USA

This project will fund a large number of residential research fellowships for both senior and junior faculty in multiple areas, as well as dissertation fellowships. Descriptions of the fellowships, and the times at which they will be offered, can be found at the following links:

The common goal of these research fellowships will be to provide scholars the opportunity to conduct independent research alongside colleagues working on similar projects. Fellows will find themselves surrounded by an exciting blend of activities, conferences, and programs (described on the other pages of this site) dedicated to the topics they are working on themselves. In addition, residential fellows will have the opportunities to interact and collaborate with faculty at Notre Dame, as well as a full complement of additional research fellows and graduate students in residence every year through the Center for Philosophy of Religion fellowship program. In short, fellows will have the freedom from teaching and administrative responsibilities that will allow them to make significant progress on their own research interests while being surrounded by a community of excellent scholars pursuing similar topics.

Research fellows will receive a total award of $55,000 to $85,000, depending on rank and circumstances. (Up to $15,000 of the award can be used for travel, relocation, and research expenses.) Fellows will also have joint access to an additional $15,000 to $25,000 to convene a two-day workshop in the spring semester of their residence on their areas of interest (in coordination with the Center for Philosophy of Religion, which will handle all the logistical and administrative details). They will also have access to several thousand dollars to bring in additional outside visitors and speakers during their tenure.

Dissertation fellows will receive a $25,000 fellowship, plus an additional $5,000 for research, travel, and relocation. Dissertation fellows will also have joint access to several thousand dollars to bring in outside speakers and scholars working on topics of interest to them. In some cases, dissertation fellows in 2011-2012 may be offered an additional year of funding in 2012-2013, though a second year renewal is not guaranteed. (Interested graduate students who have not yet advanced to candidacy are strongly encouraged to apply to the 2010 Seminar in Early Modern Philosophy of Religion.)
