European Master in Sustainable Regional Health Systems for International Students

The European Master in Sustainable Regional Health Systems is a two years long interdisciplinary programme of 120 ECTS that aims to give vision, knowledge and tools to develop and manage coherent health systems that contribute both to health and sustainable regional development in their regional communities.

It aims to fill the gap in Health Management by approaching the theme of health system management and planning on a regional level.

Open to: Non-EU students with an University degree in a relevant field
Scholarship: 12000 + monthly allowance

This Master promotes the benchmarking of the different health system models helping to construct the comprehensive health system management and planning, including both, health care and promotion, as well as the interrelation between health and socio-economic areas. It aims to spread out the European model of health promotion and health planning, sustainability and the role of health system in social cohesion and strengthening of social capital.

At the end of the Masters Course the students will graduate with Joint Master’s degree awarded by all Consortium universities and can work as middle and upper level managers in hospitals and health services as well as in regional and national administrative bodies related to public health planning and management in diverse sectors: health insurance, health financing, strategic planning, etc.

Scholarship

If you are a non-EU student (Category A):
* Contribution to travel, installation and any other type of costs: € 8000
* Maximum contribution to the EMMC participation costs (including insurance coverage):
€ 4000 / semester
* Monthly allowance: € 1000 / month

Admission:

Admission may be granted to applicants who meet the following common admission criteria:

* A university degree in Sociology, Psychology, Law, Political Science, Anthropology, History, Medicine, Social Work, Social Education, Nursing, Public Health etc, that they want to specialize in the scope of the health.
Candidates are required to have a recognized qualification in the language of instruction of the university that they plan to attend. Knowledge of languages of the place of study is an asset.
A sufficient score of one of the following English language certificates (TOEFL, First Certificate, IELTS).
*Statement of intent. Applicants must submit a statement of intent indicating why the Master’s is relevant for future carrier.

For applicants who seek and are eligible for Erasmus Mundus “Category A” scholarships, and self-financing students application is open since 1st of July and will be closed in 2011 January.

  2. A copy of the passport or other official identification proof
  3. Sertified copies of diplomas and translation in English. (If legalized copies of diplomas are not available at the time of application, an original statement from your current university about the studies done and studies currently being done must be provided)
  4. Copies of diploma supplements stating courses followed and scores obtained per course and translation in English
  5. Copies of language tests scores and language certificates (TOEFL/IELTS, etc.)
  6. Letter of motivation

  8. Academic and professional CV

Vavilov–Frankel Fellowships 2011 for Lower-Middle Income Countries

Up to US$ 20 000 each, which will be available for 2011 to carry out research, from 3 to 12 months. Multi-disciplinary research is particularly encouraged.
These opportunities are available thanks to support from Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc., United States
and the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC), Australia.
The fellowships are intended to cover travel, stipend for living expenses, bench fees, materials, insurance, conference participation and publications. They can be held concurrently with other sources of support.
Who can apply
Eligibility for this call is determined on the basis of applicants meeting a number of general criteria and additional criteria for the GRDC-supported fellowship noted below.
General criteria for all applicants:
Nationality: Applicants should be nationals of low income and lower-middle income countries, according to the Human and Income Poverty Index.
Age: Applicants should be no more than 35 years of age.
Degree: Applicants should hold at least a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area.
Location where research project will be conducted: If applying to the Pioneer-supported Fellowship, research work proposed may be carried out in any country outside the applicant’s home country. If applying to the GRDC-supported Fellowship, research must be carried out at an Australian research institute or at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center – CIMMYT or at the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas – ICARDA (International Agricultural Research Centers of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research, CGIAR).
Topic of research: All applications must address one of the research themes described on page

2.Additional requirements (for the GRDC-supported fellowship only)
Applicants for the GRDC-supported fellowship must also meet one of the four thematic criteria below:
• Target a species that is a priority for both Australia and the home country.
• Target an alternative, neglected or underutilized species with either environmental or economic potential
for Australia.
• Work on any of the following specifi c crops: wheat, barley, oats, sorghum, cereal rye, triticale, maize, canary seed, millets/panicum, canola, linseed, saffl ower, soybeans, sunfl owers, chickpeas, cowpeas, fababeans, fi eld peas, lentils, lupins, mung beans, navy beans, peanuts, pigeon peas and vetch.
• Use biotechnology in support of effi cient use of plant genetic resources.

by email from e.demedici@cgiar.org. The successful applicants will be informed by 30 April 2011 and are required to take up their Fellowships before 31 December 2011.

International Research Position, International Potato Center, Peru

The Center: CIP is a not-for-profit international agricultural research organization with a global mandate to conduct research on potatoes and sweetpotatoes, sustainable management of natural resources and urban agriculture. CIP’s vision is to contribute from its areas of expertise to the fulfillment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), in particular those goals that relate to poverty, hunger, child and maternal mortality, and sustainable development in rural and urban systems. CIP has its headquarters in Lima, Peru with staff and activities in locations across Africa, Asia and Latin America. CIP is a member of the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research, a network of 15 research centers mostly located in the developing world and supported by more than 60 donor members.

The Position: The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a Nationally Recruited Scientist (NRS) for the Crop Management and Production Systems Division (Division 4). The primary responsibility will be to assist the Division Leader with research and program planning, and related management activities within the Division.

The successful candidate will have:

• MSc or PhD in Agronomy or other agricultural sciences discipline
• Minimum 10 years’ of recent related research experience
• Strong organizational skills
• Demonstrated capacity to prepare projects and reports
• Capacity to recognize and deal with situations requiring application of analytical thinking
• Strong proficiency in English and Spanish, both oral and written
• Creative and able to work well in teams
• Excellent computer skills (word processing, graphic and database)
• Excellent understanding of the work and programs of the Division

Specific Responsibilities:
• Strategic: Assists the Division/Program leader in planning, implementing and monitoring the strategic plan; in the preparation of the Medium Term Plan (MTP); in interactions with Mega Programs and the coordination of projects that may derive from Mega Programs; and with the Division Leader’s related responsibilities as a member of the CIP Program Committee.
• Research management: Supports the Division and Division Leader by monitoring the portfolio of projects related to the Division or Programs in terms of execution, reporting, and relationship with the MTP and preparation of MTP and MP related reports; by helping to identify priority ideas for funding, writing concept notes and proposals; by reviewing project reports to be sent to donors; and maintaining ongoing communications with staff implementing projects in the geographic programs in order to identify gaps and problems and assist in implementation of solutions.
• Research implementation: Supports/coordinates the implementation of research projects where the Division Leader could be the Principal Investigator (PI).
• Administration: Supports the preparation of projects for restricted or MP related projects, including costing; the implementation of the Activity Based Cost (ABC) model at the level of the Division or Program, and ongoing monitoring of the budget; and the maintenance of the One Corporate System once implemented.

Conditions: This is a local position. The employment contract will be for an initial one-year term with the possibility of renewal. The position will be based in Lima, Peru.
