MSc Research Grant in the School of Forestry, Environmental and Geographical Sciences, Makerere University, Uganda

One MSc Research position and bursary is available on a Rockefeller Foundation funded research project on climate in agricultural systems of Uganda, in the School of Forestry, Environmental and Geographical Sciences, Makerere University. The goal of the project is to provide a framework for developing farm and community level adaptation strategies to climate change in Uganda’s agricultural and natural resources management systems. In this regard the project intends to; 1). Assess vulnerability of agro-ecological zones to climate variability and change, and 2). Identify adaptation measures to the effects of change on a selected agro-enterprise within an agro-ecological zone.

Research Position in Centre for Studies in Science Policy at JNU, India: Socio-economic Study of Rainfed Agriculture and Low Input Animal Husbandry in India

Applications are invited from senior, middle and junior economists for a project entitled “Socio-economic Study of Rainfed Agriculture and Low Input Animal Husbandry in India”. The Economic Research Unit based at the Centre for Studies in Science Policy, Jawaharlal Nehru University is mandated to undertake macro-economic analyses, simulation modeling and case-study based analyses to improve our understanding of the functioning of rainfed dryland agriculture and its possible macroeconomic contribution in India. The objective of the Research Unit is to build an evidence-based case for directing more public investment to rainfed areas and the precise form such investment should take in the relevant sectors. The project is funded by the Ford Foundation and will run through December 31st, 2012.
A series of positions are being filled over the next few months, ranging from junior researchers to senior fellows. These are not time-bound positions, and hence applications are invited on a continuing basis. Successful candidates will need to have a PhD in Economics and some combination of experience of conducting field surveys, demonstrable abilities with statistical and econometric packages and a reasonable publication record. Salaries  for the respective positions will be awarded as per agreed upon in the final project budget. Research Fellowship in the Department of Botany at Lucknow University, India

Applications are invited for the purely temporary position of a Research Fellow (JRF/SRF) in CSIR sponsored project entitled “Predicting ploidy response to body size and productivity in aromatic grasses: Histological, developmental and histochemical characterization of cell geometry in diploid vs. autopolyploid clones”, with the undersigned. Salary shall be commensurate with the prevailing rates for JRF / SRF as per CSIR rules. The position is co?terminus with the project and the person employed in the project shall have no claim to any University position, permanent or otherwise. Candidates should apply on plain paper clearly mentioning their educational qualifications and percentage obtained at graduate and post graduate level. There is no application fee. Performance at the interview and the academic qualifications of the candidates shall form the basis of selection. Applications are acceptable only as hardcopy and should be delivered in person to the PI (Seshu Lavania). Copies of all the relevant documents (proof of date of birth, marks sheets for B.Sc and M.Sc and NET / GATE result) must accompany the application. The original documents are required to be produced at the time of interview.
Eligibility: NET or GATE qualified candidates with M.Sc in Botany / Plant Science may apply. Students having qualified NET under the categories i) JRF and ii) Lecturership (NET) or those having qualified GATE shall be considered. Candidates possessing a sound background of Plant systematics and histological / histochemical techniques will be preferred.
