The CECAD Graduate School is calling for applications for its comprehensive PhD program in the interdisciplinary and future-oriented field of aging research. The three-year program includes excellent research conditions with intensive guidance and state-of-the-art facilities in an international work environment.

Requirements
The requirements for applying to the CECAD Graduate School is a Master of Science or an equivalent degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or another relevant subject. Alternatively, we also accept applicants with a degree in medicine if they can prove that they have sufficient research experience in a field which is relevant to CECAD’s work. In order to be admitted to the selection procedure, all applicants must prove that they have adequate knowledge of English.

MPhil in Epidemiology or Public Health

A number of MRC studentships are available to support eligible UK/EU nationals* who wish to undertake either one year Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Epidemiology or Public Health for the 2011-2012 academic year. The MPhil in Epidemiology course aims to provide students with advanced knowledge and understanding of epidemiological principles and procedures and their application to health, including advanced training in critical appraisal, statistical analysis of epidemiological data and study design.The MPhil in Public Health aims to provide students with the necessary theoretical knowledge, which when combined with appropriate practical experience, can serve as a foundation for a career as a public health professional in either a service or an academic setting.

The courses are open to medical and non-medical graduates, particularly those with a background in biomedical and quantitative sciences. Applicants should have at least a 2.1 Honours Bachelors Degree in a related field (or equivalent). Applications from individuals who wish to continue to a PhD in Epidemiology or Public health are particularly welcome (see below). Financial support may cover tuition and college fees and a generous allowance expected to be in the region of £14500 per year for living costs.

PhD programme in the Department of Public Health and Primary Care

MRC studentships are available to support eligible UK/EU nationals* who wish to undertake a PhD programme of research developed in conjunction with a supervisor. PhD projects will be based on the research aims of the Department of Public Health and Primary care. All PhD applicants are encouraged to identify a potential supervisor before applying. Applicants who have obtained a Masters or equivalent in Epidemiology, Biostatistics or Public Health and have an excellent first degree (2:1 or higher) will be considered for the 3-year PhD programme. Students without a Masters or equivalent are encouraged to apply for a 1+3 PhD programme and will first complete a relevant taught MPhil in Epidemiology or Public Health and then follow the PhD programme.
