School of Advanced Study Doctoral Studentships, University of London, UK: Medical Study

The School offers its own Studentships for research (doctoral) degree study (MPhil/PhD). In 2011-12 we expect to offer up to two research (doctoral) degree Studentships, for commencing October 2011. he School Studentships are funded at the full UK Research Council rate for London-based students. In addition to fees, the rates for maintenance in 2010-11 are given below as a guide: Research students: £15,590 full-time and £9,355 part-time. It is not at present clear whether this will increase or remain the same for 2011-12.  Students assessed for fees at the overseas rate will be required to pay the difference between the Overseas and Home/EU fee. Only if you have been offered a place by the Institute in which you wish to study, and you have accepted it, are you eligible to submit an application for funding. Eligible students can apply both for AHRC and School doctoral studentships using the combined application form. Students applying to all funding strands need only complete one form.
Eligibility: School Doctoral Studentships cover fees and maintenance allowance at the full UK Research Council rate for London-based students. Studentships can be awarded to Home/EU or Overseas students and can be for full-time or part-time study. Only those students beginning their first year of study in 2011/12 are eligible.

PhD Scholarship in Investigating Bowel Cancer, Australia

Australian Rotary Health invites applications from recent graduates looking to build a career in research relevant to Bowel Cancer. Australian Rotary Health is a multi-district project for Rotary in Australia, with over 1,150 Rotary Clubs and 38,000 Rotarians supporting it. Australian Rotary Health has channelled more than $24 million in Australian research projects over its 29-year history. Australian Rotary Health’s emphasis has been on community health. Australian Rotary Health has previously invested in research projects looking at Cot Death, Adolescent Health, Family Health as well as the Ross River Virus, Malaria, Bowel Cancer screening, First Aid and  Emergency Care Research. Australian Rotary Health’s Funding Partners Program has invested in over $1 million in the best and brightest minds in fields as diverse as Bowel Cancer, Child Wellbeing, Suicide, Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, Bowel Cancer, Alzheimer’s and most of the Cancers. To provide financial support for research projects conducted in Australia which have the potential to enhance the health of the community. To stimulate research activities within Australia by facilitating communication between participants in specified fields. To support specific research fields for a minimum of three years.
Eligibility:
Applicants must be an Australian Citizen of have Permanent Resident Status and not be under bond to any foreign government. Applicants are to provide where appropriate, evidence of residential status.

Research Fellow in Computational Models of Language Acquisition and Processing, Australia

The appointees will work on projects funded by Macquarie University and/or the Australian Research Council involving the development of computational models of language acquisition and on-line sentence processing. The language acquisition research uses non-parametric Bayesian models, which the appointee will be responsible for extending and applying to new domains. The on-line sentence processing research involves the development of an incremental CCG parsing model and using it as a language model in a speech disfluency detection and correction system. The appointees duties include carrying out research and data analysis, developing and extending mathematical models of language acquisition and comprehension, system design and implementation, as well as interacting with our growing research team and collaborating with other group members.
