Research Position:Microwave Power Systems for Irradiating Bio-solids, UBC, Canada

We have a research opportunity for a talented graduate student (preferably PhD) interested in a multi-disciplinary research project in microwave power systems for heating bio-solids (residuals from sewage treatment plants) for enhanced energy (biogas) recovery. The student should have a strong background in electromagnetic theory and microwave engineering, and be interested in applying this knowledge to develop innovative waveguide structures for irradiating bio-solids. The student will be part of a multi-disciplinary research team and work with graduate students in environmental engineering who are developing innovative methods for treating organic waste from municipal and industrial sources. The research will involve theoretical work associated with the development of electro-thermal models for bio-solids, integrating these models into EM simulations of waveguide structures, and laboratory work to measure dielectric properties and implement microwave power systems.

Interested students should contact Professors Thomas Johnson (Electrical Engineering) or Cigdem Eskicioglu (Environmental Engineering) in the School of Engineering at UBC. Please include your resume/CV with a brief description of your research experience.
