Postdoctoral Researcher,Institute for Research on Earth Evolution, Japan

A Position for Postdoctoral Researcher, who will join our research project “In-situ measurements of stress, elastic and hydrological properties at or near the seismogenic fault zone” of the Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research, which is funded until March 2014. Applicant is expected to study on understanding the physical properties and state at/near seismogenic fault zones, as well as to design in-situ measurements. We expect the applicant to be expertized in the stress or elastic property analysis using well log data.

Requirements
* Applicant is either (A) required to hold a Ph.D. degree within five years prior to the date of employment, or (B) expected to obtain a Ph.D. degree by the date of employment.

Postdoctoral Researcher:
One contract term is one Japanese fiscal year and the contract can be renewed twice. (The total contract term is three Japanese fiscal years.)

Salary
* Salary will be competitive in accordance with JAMSTEC’s bylaws, taking academic career, research ability and research role in IFREE into consideration (annual salary system). Appointment level for positions will be determined by JAMSTEC after the interview based upon the discussion with the successful candidates.

Postdoctoral Researcher, Environmental Biogeochemical Cycle Research Program (EBCRP), Research Institute for Global Change, Japan

The atmospheric geochemical cycle research team of EBCRP in RIGC solicits an application for Postdoctoral Researcher to its Environment Research and Technology Development Fund theme S-7 supported by the Ministry of the Environment (MOE). Applicants are invited for the Postdoctral Researcher in following research activities: (1) Analysis of the transport and transform processes of pollutants such as ozone and PM2.5 in East Asia and Northern Hemisphere by using regional chemical transport models (CTMs). A close collaboration with the observational sub-themes in S-7 is expected. (2) Analysis of decadal-scale variations of ozone and aerosols by CTM calculations (3) Development and validation of aerosol processes in regional CTMs (4) Source-Receptor analysis and sensitivity analysis of the concentation of pollutants to the change of emissions. Requirements 1. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science or a closely related field. Advanced knowledge in atmospheric CTMs, FORTRAN programming, large dataset handling, visualization software, and UNIX environment are required. Also, applicants must be within five years since awarded a Ph.D. at the time of appointment. Successful candidate will be hired as a Postdoctoral Researcher. 2. Alexander Hollander Distinguished Post-Doctoral Fellowship, USA

Sponsored by DOE’s Office of Biological & Environmental Research, and administered by Oak Ridge Institute for Science & Education, this fellowship allows postdocs to conduct research at national laboratories in the fields of life science, biomedical, and environmental sciences.

Eligibility/Requirements

* Bachelor of Science degree in:

o Optical Engineering
o Other disciplines as deemed critical by Sandia National Laboratories
* Minimum grade point average of 3.2/4.0
* Qualify to attend specific graduate schools for specific specialty content areas.
* Available to spend a minimum of two months working at Sandia prior to entering the program.
* U.S. Citizenship is Required.
