Latin American / PAAO Pediatric Ophthalmology Fellowship 2011, USA

A one year hands-on pediatric ophthalmology fellowship is available for one qualified Latin American ophthalmologist through the PAAO in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas  and its affiliated Children’s Medical Center The position will include the opportunity for direct patient medical and surgical interactions as well as the opportunity to participate in significant clinical research activities. The candidate must be a member of the PAAO.

  • General ophthalmologist, age 35 years or younger, from Mexico, Central or South America, or the Caribbean.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English. Candidates must have taken the TOEFL exam and submit their results with their application. Mandatory. Candidates will be interviewed by telephone to gauge their English abilities.
  • Willing to commit for one or two years of training.
  • Completion of a recognized ophthalmology residency in Latin America.
  • Applicants with additional training in or those currently practicing pediatric ophthalmology and/or strabismus will be given preference.
  • Established medical and surgical competence and good depth perception.
  • Highly recommended by chairperson and training program director.
  • Commitment to return to Latin America at conclusion of fellowship training program

    2011 Winton Advanced Research Fellowships, UK: Physics

    The University has recently received a gift of £20M to establish a major programme of research in the broad field of the application of physics to sustainability. This programme includes support for Advanced Research Fellows working within this area of science. Fellows will be expected to carry out their research within the Department of Physics, or, where appropriate, jointly with other Departments in the University, such as the Departments of Chemistry and Materials Science.
    This scheme will support outstanding scientists and will allow them to develop an independent research career. Candidates sought are of the calibre to win permanent posts in universities at the end of their fellowships. Candidates will normally have completed two years’ post-doctoral work at an institution different from that at which their PhD was obtained. Fellowships will be of 5 years’ duration, with some scope for extension of two years and will provide salary comparable to junior university faculty positions (on the scale currently £36,862 -£46,696 per annum) and appropriate support for equipment, travel and operating expenses. Managers of the Winton Programme invite outline applications for up to 4 fellowships. They seek projects in new areas or that take new approaches in established areas.

    Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan for the Academic Year 2011-12

    Commonwealth under its Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) has offered various scholarships / fellowships for the Academic year 2011-12. This activity has been made possible largely by the success of the CSFP endowment fund, which was raised to mark the 50th Anniversary of the scheme last year, as well as generosity of the host institutions. The new destinations are Kenya, Mauritius, Nigeria, South Africa, South Africa and Tanzania. The details are as under:

    Eligibility Criteria:
    The Applicant:
    a.  Should not have obtained below 70% marks in entire academic career (SSC, HSC, BA/BSc, Masters)
    b.  Should have obtained at least 65% or above marks in Masters (MS/MSc or other 16 years of education or in BE/BSc Engineering, MBBS, LLB, MBA, or equivalent.
    c.   With completed sixteen (16) years or equivalent bachelor’s degree for Master’s studies.
    d.   With MS/ M. Phil completed degree will be given preference in PhD studies.
    e.    With PhD completed degree will be given preference in Post Doctoral / Research studies.
    f.     Should be fulfilling the respective university’s eligibility criteria of the course / degree, in which he / she is interested to apply.
    g.   Applying in only one program, country as well as course
