JRF and Project Fellowship Positions in the Department of Physics at Karnatak University, India

Application are invited for the post of Junior Research Fellow( JRF)/Project Fellow to carry out research in the Department of Physics, Karnatak University,Dharwad under project entitled” Study of Fission Hindrance in Th-224 system: measurements of ER and spin distribution”. Details are as follows: Selected candidate should be prepared to under take research work at Department of Physics, Karnatak University Dharwad as well as Inter University Accelerator Centre (IUAC), New Delhi . Interested candidates may send an application form along with CV to the principal Investigator on or before May 16, 2011. Short listed candidates will have to attend an interview on a date to be intimated later. No TA/DA will be paid for the interview.
Eligibility: M.Sc degree in Physics, specilisation in Nuclear Physics. The NET/GATE qualified students will be preferred.

2011 Winton Advanced Research Fellowships, UK: Physics

The University has recently received a gift of £20M to establish a major programme of research in the broad field of the application of physics to sustainability. This programme includes support for Advanced Research Fellows working within this area of science. Fellows will be expected to carry out their research within the Department of Physics, or, where appropriate, jointly with other Departments in the University, such as the Departments of Chemistry and Materials Science.
This scheme will support outstanding scientists and will allow them to develop an independent research career. Candidates sought are of the calibre to win permanent posts in universities at the end of their fellowships. Candidates will normally have completed two years’ post-doctoral work at an institution different from that at which their PhD was obtained. Fellowships will be of 5 years’ duration, with some scope for extension of two years and will provide salary comparable to junior university faculty positions (on the scale currently £36,862 -£46,696 per annum) and appropriate support for equipment, travel and operating expenses. Managers of the Winton Programme invite outline applications for up to 4 fellowships. They seek projects in new areas or that take new approaches in established areas.

PhD Studentship within the ATLAS Experiment at the CERN Large Hardon Collider, Sweden: Physics and Astronomy

The Uppsala ATLAS group is part of the High Energy Physics group at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, and currently consists of three faculty members, one post-doctor and three graduate students. We are looking for an excellent and highly motivated PhD student with keen interest in experimental physics and competence within data analysis programs (e.g. C++ and ROOT). The PhD student will work on physics analysis of data from ATLAS and take part in the development of tools for distributed analysis on the grid needed for this purpose.

The PhD position is funded for four years, extendible to a maximum of five years including department duties at a level of at most 20% (typically teaching).
