FitzPatrick Family Doctoral Scholarships in Law, UK: Criminology, Criminal Justice, Penology

The UCD Institute of Criminology, part of UCD’s School of Law, is pleased to offer one doctoral scholarship in the area of criminology/ criminal justice / penology. Applications are sought from exceptional graduates for a scholarship to undertake on a full-time basis a four year funded PhD programme of research in the fields of criminology, criminal justice, or penology. The scholarship is being generously funded by the FitzPatrick Family Foundation. It is available to candidates commencing their studies in September 2011 and is tenable for a maximum of four years, renewable each year subject to satisfactory progress.
In addition the payment of fees there is an annual stipend of €16,000 per annum (plus a €500 conference attendance allowance) and is open to Irish, EU and International applicants. In the case of non EU applicants any offer is conditional on the applicant demonstrating at the time of accepting the offer that s/he has sufficient funds to supplement the living allowance to cover the cost of living in Dublin. 2011 Doctoral Positions in International Studies, Trento University, Italy

The University of Trento, with the financial support of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Trento e Rovereto, announces the 27h cycle of the Doctoral School in International Studies. The selection for 5 doctoral positions is announced. All the 5 positions will be assigned scholarships. The scholarships are issued by the University of Trento. Duration: Three years Official language: English. All doctoral students are encouraged to learn Italian during their studies. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in developing interdisciplinary competences, with particular regards to the International Studies. The number of scholarships may be increased by funds from universities, public research bodies, or approved private organizations made available after the publication of this announcement and before the beginning of the selection.

Any increase in the number of available places resulting from an increase of scholarships.Applications are also invited from students who expect to complete their degree by 1 October 2011. In such
cases applicants must attach a declaration from their academic supervisor or the relevant faculty stating that
the student is expected to complete the programme before the said deadline. Admission for candidates who have not graduated yet will be “conditional” and the applicant must present the relevant degree certificate, or a declaration that the degree has been conferred (in conformity with Presidential Decree no. 445 of December 28, 2000, applicable only to citizens of the European Union), by 5 October 2011. Otherwise, the applicant shall lose the right to be admitted to the School.

2011 PhD Position in Faculty of Humanities at Utrecht University, Netherlands

Agency, Gender, and Economic Development in the World Economy 1850-2000 is a project that endeavors’ to explore how ‘agency’, conceptualized as the potential for individual decision-making at the levels of households, economic activity and political participation, contributed to global economic development and vice versa. a (research) master’s degree in economic and social history, or in economics or another social science with shown interest in (economic and social) history a theoretical background and a strong interest for relevant theory; an outstanding record of undergraduate and master’s degree work; the ability to work with large data sets.

We offer a PhD position (1,0 fte) with a one year contract beginning June 2011. After a positive evaluation this contract can be extended to a maximum of three more years (a total of four years maximum). This provides graduates with an opportunity to finish their doctoral dissertation in four years, funded by NWO. Salary will be rising from € 2.042,- a month (before taxes) during the first year to € 2.612,- a month during the fourth year on a fulltime basis. We also offer solid benefits.
