2011 Sochon Foundation Scholarship in Postgraduate, SOAS, UK: Korean Studies

The Sochon Foundation has generously provided SOAS with one scholarship for students undertaking a full-time post-graduate programme in Korean Studies.The scholarship, valued at £7,000, will be used to off-set the cost of tuition fees and/or provide some support for living expenses. The scholarship is applied to tuition fees in the first instance, any remainder may be considered for living costs.

The Sochon Foundation Scholarship may be held in conjunction with other scholarships. However, please be aware that all financial support secured before 29 April 2011 must be declared to the Advisory Panel in your application. Any awards held will be taken into consideration on assessment of financial need.The scholarship is for one year only. For candidates undertaking an MPhil/PhD programme, the scholarship is not renewable.
Applicants on the following programmes of study may also apply, but will not be given preference:
MPhil/PhD Korean Studies Research (previous admissions)
Any other post-graduate degree related to Korean Studies (please define your pathway)
Full-time programmes only, part-time programmes are not eligible.Open to UK/EU and overseas applicants.

PhD Scholarship on Nordic Historiography beyond Methodological Nationalism, Denmark

Funded by the Joint Committee for Nordic Research Councils for the Humanities and the Social Sciences (NOS-HS) hosted by the University of Tampere, Finland .The successful applicant will define his/her own research project within the area of Nordic historiography after 1850 applying a transnational/comparative perspective. He/she is expected to be enrolled at the Graduate School of the Faculty of Humanities in Copenhagen from 1 September 2011. The PhD scholarship is a three-year position.

Research proposals should explore Nordic norms, standards and practices of academic knowledge production in the field of history. Furthermore, they should focus on a) the role of Nordic networks in the construction of history, and/or b) the role of history and historians in the construction of ‘Norden’ as a historical region.

PhD Scholarship in Soil Science, KNUST, Ghana

The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science KNUST is located in Kumasi, the second largest city in Ghana and in the rich cultural environment of the Ashanti kingdom. The University recognizes the study of Science and Technology as an essential part of its cultural heritage. With the support of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), KNUST has developed and will run a 4 year coursework and research PhD programme in Soil Science. The programme will be hosted in the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences in the Faculty of Agriculture.
The main goal of this new PhD programme at KNUST is to develop and strengthen regional human and institutional capacity to develop innovative and adaptable technologies for halting the rapid soil degradation to improve agricultural productivity in Africa.

Eligibility:
Applications must be nationals of the following West African countries— Ghana, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger and Nigeria.
Scholarships:
AGRA will grant scholarships to some selected candidates on competitive basis. Female candidates will be given priority for scholarship awards. This is a scholarship that covers tuition, and attractive packages for accommodation, book allowance, stipend, and research cost from the program. These details will be provided in the final award letters to successful candidates.
