International Postdoctoral Position in Genomics, India

Projects funded by National Science Foundation (NSF), USA, and Generation Challenge Programme (GCP), Mexico, which are time bound.
Requirements: Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics/Plant Genomics/Agricultural Biotechnology/Plant Biotechnology/Life sciences with the knowledge indicated in responsibilities and good exposure to statistical analysis/quantitative genetics.

Responsibilities: Study nitrogen fixation in legumes at physiology as well as molecular level, marker genotyping, genetic mapping, QTL analysis, sequencing and gene expression analysis, supervise laboratory and field activities, actively associate in writing project reports and research articles, supervision of students and technicians and perform other related jobs from time to time.
Nature and duration: This position is an international position and the incumbent will be working in close collaboration with University of California, Davis, USA. The position is tenure-based and available only for three years.

Erasmus Mundus MSc Scholarships in Science for International Students

: EM Food of Life is a cross-disciplinary Masters Course.
In a unique way, the course combines animal science and food science and technology.
EM Food of Life is offered by:
* University of Copenhagen
* Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
* Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona
* University of Helsinki

Non-EU and EU Students
The EM Food of Life Masters Course is open to non-EU and EU students.

Every year approx. 17-20 EU scholarships are available.
* Category A Scholarships for Third-Country nationals: Total € 48.000 EUR
* Category B Scholarships for European nationals and others complying with the 12 months rule: Total € 20.000

Category A scholarships can be awarded to masters students from all countries other than the 27 EU member states and the EEA-EFTA states: Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway. Furthermore, you must comply with the 12 months rule: you must not be a resident nor have carried out your main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in one of these countries.

Category B scholarships can be awarded to any masters students who do not fulfil the category A criteria defined above, i.e. nationality requirement and 12 months rule.

For both categories please note:
1. You must study in two of the consortium partner countries.
2. The two countries must be different from the country in which you obtained your last university degree.

It is possible to be admitted to the Course, even though you are not awarded a scholarship. You will then have to cover EM Food of Life participatory costs. If you finance your study yourself, you are allowed to study in the country of your last university degree.

Non-EU Scholars
Every year, the EM Food of Life Masters Course awards a limited number of scholarships to third-country scholars/guest lecturers, who wish to spend time at one of the four European partner institutions giving lectures, supervising projects, doing research etc.

* Scholarship: 1.200 EUR / week

Research Scholarship, The Africa Rice Center, Africa

Africa Rice is an association of 24 African member states and one of the 15 international Centers supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). AfricaRice’s mission is to contribute to poverty alleviation and food security in Africa, through research, development and partnership activities aimed at increasing the productivity and profitability of the rice sector in ways that ensure the sustainability of the farming environments. AfricaRice is temporarily headquartered in Cotonou, Benin.
Responsibilities
The social scientist will be part of a multi-disciplinary research team working to sustain and improve the productivity of rice-based systems in rainfed, irrigated and lowland ecologies of Africa consistent with AfricaRice’s mission and mandate. She/he will conduct strategic and applied research on institutional and organizational constraints to collective action and governance in NRM, with special emphasis on inland valley systems in West Africa. His/her specific tasks will include the following:
o Develop and implement a research program focused around social, cultural, organizational and institutional dimensions of rice sector development, related to land tenure, water management, group formation and collective action and governance in NRM
o Provide leadership to social science activities conducted at the household – community level and ensure that these are captured in mid-term plans and future R&D projects
o Interact closely with other AfricaRice programs
o Actively link with R&D partners that operate at district – national or watershed level to ensure out-scaling of results
o Build capacity within national programs and universities in social science, supervise MSc and PhD students
o Participate actively in ongoing research projects
o Develop annual work plans and budgets in consultation with the Program Leader, project coordinators and team members
o Publish research results in peer reviewed journals and other relevant outlets
o Actively participate in the dissemination of research results of direct relevance to farmers and other rice development stakeholders
o Participate in and contribute to resource mobilization efforts
o Undertake any other duties as required by the Center
Qualification
The selected candidate should have:
• A PhD in innovation systems research, sociology or related fields
• More than five years work experience, preferably in Africa
• Strong statistics and systems analysis skills
• Excellent communication skills in either English or French, with a working knowledge of the other
• An excellent publication record
Duration of the Appointment:
The appointment is for two years with possibility for renewal
