2011 Research Exchange Program in Canadian Studies for Spring, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel

The Halbert Centre Faculty Research Exchange Program (HC-REP) is open to tenured and non-tenured (with teken) researchers of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. This program is designed to facilitate scholarly exchanges on topics with significant Canadian content between faculty of the Hebrew University and researchers affiliated with recognized institutions of higher education in Canada.

The program may also be utilized for individual Israeli scholars who do not have a Canadian research partner, but can demonstrate either substantial need for their research to be conducted in Canada or significant Canadian content in their research topic. The grant will consist of a contribution towards international airfare and research expenses for a maximum amount of $10,000 (CD).”Grants and Scholarships” of the Halbert Centre for Canadian Studies. Scholars at the Hebrew University who have completed their Ph.D. degrees within the last seven years will be given priority in allocating the program grants.

Senior Research Fellowships in Dementia Studies, University of Worcester, UK

We are seeking an experienced and inspiring Senior Research Fellow to be a key player in the development of the knowledge transfer portfolio of the newly established Association of Dementia Studies. We require an individual who has demonstrated that they can enthuse and work in partnership with health and social care providers to radically improve services for people living with dementia. In particular, the post-holder is expected to take a leading role in developing the University of Worcester Association for Dementia Studies.  It is expected that the post holder will work closely with the Director of ADS and deputise for her as appropriate. Together with her, they will have responsibility for securing long-term funding for ADS ensuring that it becomes financially viable after the initial prime funding period.  The focus of this post would be applied research in the development of a practice based portfolio to ensure the delivery of the national dementia strategy. Such activities will be progressed with colleagues from a range of sectors with the aim of developing a centre of excellence locally, nationally and ultimately, internationally. We are looking for an individual who has substantial experience in applied research in dementia care and has an appropriate professional health or social care qualification. We would welcome applications from a range of disciplines but who has a high level of credibility across a range of disciplines.  Areas of expertise in nursing, medicine, social care, activity and occupation, psychology, care homes, care at home, design and tele-care, service commissioning and modelling would be particularly relevant. As the post will involve developing and running research programmes, the post holder will also be expected to have project management experience.

All those applying using the scholarship application form will be notified of the outcome of their application by email by the end June at the latest. Any award made to an applicant holding a conditional offer will be subject to those conditions being met in full. Additional conditions attached to the Scholarship over and above the conditions in the offer may be also be specified.

Different Departments will have varying criteria for awarding Scholarships, however, in general we will be looking for students who have the equivalent of a UK First Class honours degree, or a very high 2:1 OR who have sufficient grades to demonstrate the potential to achieve this level. The precise grades vary from country to country, but the following is intended for general guidance:
The initial short-listing will be done by a team of staff in the International Office who have extensive knowledge and experience of a wide range of world-wide qualifications. Shortlisted applications will then be passed to the relevant Department who have the final say on the award of the scholarship. They will take into consideration the overall quality of applications to their department and will set their own limits on numbers of scholarships to be awarded.
