United word Colleges- Nigerian National Committee ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Nigerian National Committee for the United World Colleges (UWC) invites applications from suitably qualified Nigerian candidates for a limited number of scholarship Awards to some United world Colleges. The Colleges prepare students for a two year International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Certificate (an

Equivalent of ‘A’ levels). Parents/Guardians may be required to foot the bill of their wards’ flight ticket, pocket money, health, insurance, clothing, etc, cost where applicable. Candidates must be between the ages of 16 and 17 years. However, those aged 18 and 19 years are eligible for the simon Bolivar UWC in Venezuela, which is essentially an agriculture institution.

The United World Colleges Movement is a non-profit making organization with international Headquarters in London, Currently, there are thirteen Colleges located in various countries, namely United Kingdom, Singapore, Canada, Swaziland, USA, Italy, Venezuela, Hong Kong, Norway, India, Costa Rica, Bosnia Herzegovina and Netherlands. The Nigerian National Committee was formed in 1982. Currently, Mr. Hakeem Belo-Osagie (an alumnus of UWC) is the Chairman of the Committee while Mr. Akintola Williams (CBE, OFR) is the National Patron.

To be eligible to apply, candidates must have demonstrated outstanding academic ability and must have obtained the Senior School Certificate SSC/GCE ‘O’levels or their recognized equivalent. Exceptional students in SS3 may also apply with their two years continuous assessment.

Application forms can be obtained on the payment of N5, 000.00 (Five thousand Naira). Bank Draft drawn in any of the Nigerian banks and in favour of the ‘Nigerian National Committee for United World Colleges”

Forms can be downloaded from our website on http/www.ng.uwc.org but must be submitted in any of the above listed centres with the prescribed fees within the application period.

The last date for the sale and submission of application forms is February 28, 2011.

SELECTION EXERCISE:

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a rigorous Selection Exercise at the Sea school, Apapa, Lagos holding from Friday April 8 – Sunday April 10, 2011. Candidates are therefore advised to consult the list of short-listed candidates at any of the Centres shown above from March 25 – April 7, 2011. Letters of invitation to the Selection Exercise will also be delivered to short-listed candidate at the centres already noted. Candidates invited for interviews would pay N5,000.00 interview fee (to defray the cost of feeding, lodging, lodging etc).

The Selection Exercise will consist of an oral interview and various tests, including written, Solo initiative and physical Endurance tests, etc. the result will be communicated to successful candidates only. The Nigerian National committee will not enter into any correspondence with candidates not selected.

Fulbright Assocation (Singapore) Student Exchange Award, Singapore

The Fulbright Scholar Program, established in 1946, is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.  The Fulbright Association of Singapore has been involved in promoting the objectives of the Fulbright Scholar program through offering the Fulbright Association (Singapore) Student Exchange Award. The Fulbright Association is made up of Fulbright alumni and supporters committed to fostering international awareness and understanding. Local chapters of the Fulbright Association are found in 70 countries.
The purpose of the award is to recognise students who are academically strong and have a good track record of leadership and community service. Preference will also be given to students who are outgoing, articulate and able to bridge cultural differences comfortably.

RoSPA / BNFL Scholarship Scheme

BNFL has endowed RoSPA with a special fund to finance a scholarship scheme over the next ten years to enable students;’to carry out research into safety and accident prevention that will produce defined, practical and influential outcomes to help save lives and prevent injuries.’
Applications are invited for the third round of funding available through the RoSPA/BNFL accident prevention scholarship.
The scheme provides support for safety-related research that will produce defined, practical and influential outcomes to help save lives and prevent injuries in the UK and around the world. It was established with £500,000 of legacy funding following the winding up of BNFL (British Nuclear Fuels).
