JRF for PhD in Life Sciences at Tata Memorial Centre, India

The Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) is an autonomous Grant-in-aid Institution of the Department of Atomic Energy. The TMC is comprised of the Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) and the Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH). The TMC conducts Ph.D. program in Life Sciences and is affiliated to the Homi Bhabha National Institute (Deemed University). On-going research at TMC includes basic and translational work in the field of Cancer Cell Biology. Specific research topics includes study of cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, metastasis, tumor immunology, immunotherapy, virology, chemotherapy and carcinogenesis, gene therapy in animal models, tumor markers, structural biology, proteomics, genomics, genetics and glycobiology.

Qualifications: M.Sc. (Applied Biology/ Biochemistry/ Biophysics/ Biotechnology/ Botany/ Life Sciences/ Microbiology/ Molecular Biology/ Zoology); M.Tech. (Bioinformatics/ Biotechnology); M.B.B.S.; from a recognized University, with ?60% aggregate marks. Those awaiting results may also apply.

Stipend: Rs. 16000/-+ 30% HRA (if hostel facility is not allotted) per month as applicable. Limited hostel facility is available on the ACTREC campus on first come, first served basis.

Candidates who have passed the national written test like UGC-CSIR NET, ICMR-JRF may appear for the walk-in-interview on 08-03-2011 at 11 a.m. for the post of Junior Research Fellow in DST funded project Environmental and occupational exposure and male reproductive functionin the Department of Reproductive and Cyto-toxicology of the institute. Post is purely temporary and co-terminus with the project. M.Sc. in Zoology/ Biochemistry/ Molecular biology/ Biotechnology or other related subjects with good academic record and should pass the National written test like UGC-CSIR NET, ICMR-JRF and NET Qualified for lectureship and ICMR exam qualified for the JRF in Project will also be considered

2011 PhD Scholarship in Functional Phosphoproteomics and Nerve Biology, Denmark

The PhD project is part of a larger initiative entitled “Comprehensive functional characterization of signalling pathways in nerve endings”. Specifically the successful applicant will be performing functional studies of phosphorylated proteins involved in signalling in nerve terminals. The PhD scholarship is financed by the Lundbeck foundation and the University of Southern Denmark.
Qualifications:
– Master of Science in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Protein chemistry or other relevant education.
– Applicants with extensive knowledge in protein chemistry, biological mass spectrometry, protein characterization (especially characterization of protein phosphorylation and enrichment strategies for phosphoproteomics), molecular biology and cellular biology will be preferred.
– The successful applicant will in addition have a theoretical and practical experience in performing selected reaction monitoring (SRM) experiments on peptides for relative and absolute quantitative proteomics.
– Excellent skills in English (written and spoken).
Appointment as a PhD Research Fellow is for three years. Employment stops automatically at the end of the period. The holder of the scholarship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the three-year period.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement of 1 October 2008 on salaried PhD scholars between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
The successful candidate will be enrolled at this university in accordance with faculty regulations and the Danish Ministerial Order on the PhD Programme at the Universities (PhD order).
