2011 University of Southern Denmark offering PhD Fellowship in the Faculty of Engineering

The Institute of Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology and Environmental Technology, Faculty of Engineering, University of Southern Denmark is seeking a highly motivated graduate for a PhD. fellowship within the topic of identifying and recovering critical resources in future waste flows.The PhD fellow will work in the interdisciplinary research field of Environmental engineering, Life Cycle Assessment, product design and resource management.

The fellowship is funded by and part of the large research program called TOPWASTE, financed by the Danish Council for Strategic Research, see the description of the program below, called TOPWASTE. This fellowship is part of Work Package 2 of this program. Further, the fellowship will be established within the research training program ‘Energy and Environmentally Efficient Technologies’ at the Faculty of Engineering at University of Southern Denmark, see link below, called EMT. Finally, the fellowship will be enrolled in the ph.d. research school called 3R, Residual Resources Research, see link below, called 3R. These multiple affiliations and networks of research will ensure a high degree of national and international co-operation with other researchers in the field.

Postdoctoral Position in Coastal Nitrogen Cycling at University of Southern Denmark 2011, Denmark

We invite applications for a postdoctoral position to explore the nitrogen cycle in coastal waters with particular focus on the use of stable nitrogen isotopes to trace processes and establish budgets.The candidate will be integrated in the research group in microbial ecology lead by Professor
Bo Thamdrup and associated with the Nordic Center for Earth Evolution (NordCEE) at the Institute of Biology. Research in these units focuses broadly on the role of microbes in the biogeochemistry of aquatic systems, and on the evolution of microbes and environments during Earth’s history.

The candidate should have a strong background in either biogeochemistry or microbial ecology with a completed PhD by the project start date, and preferably with experience in working with stable isotopes. The application materials should include a copy of full transcripts, including grades, a statement of research interests and background, as well as two letters of recommendation.The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

PhD Scholarships in Particle Physics at University of Southern Denmark, Denmark

The Centre for Particle Physics Phenomenology (CP3-Origins) and the Department of Physics and Chemistry at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense invite applications for two PhD scholarships. We expect the two positions to be filled in the area of strongly interacting theories beyond the Standard Model, collider phenomenology, astroparticle physics, cosmology and lattice field theory.
Appointment as a PhD Research Fellow is for three or four years. Employment stops automatically at the end of the period. The holder of the scholarship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the three- or four-year period.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement of 1 October 2008 on salaried PhD scholars between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
