This position contributes towards the “Coastal Zone” Joint Research Theme of MASTS, specifically to examine the interactions between coastal biodiversity and ecosystem function, assess how these might be better linked to goods and services, and examine their relevance to the valuation of coastal ecosystems.

You will be statistically literate, highly motivated, with good communication and interpersonal skills, knowledge of the biodiversity-ecosystem function debate, and an interest in the application of science to policy. You will join the Sediment Ecology Research Group at the Scottish Oceans Institute but will work closely with partner institutes.
This position is available for 4 years, funded by Marine Alliance for Science & Technology for Scotland (MASTS).

JRF Positions in Central Salt & Marine Chemicals Research Institute, India: Modern Biology and Biotechnology

The Discipline of Marine Biotechnology and Ecology of CSMCRI, Bhavnagar is actively engaged in multidisciplinary research in frontier areas of modern biology and biotechnology.  Some of the ongoing/new research activities of the Discipline for which we wish to recruit 12 Junior Research Fellows are:  Cloning and characterization of stress-responsive genes, promoter isolation and development of transgenic crop plants, Climate change and adaptation- coastal saline ecosystem, Mapping of marine biodiversity (seaweeds and marine microbes) using molecular tools and techniques,  Genomics & metagenomics of marine microbes, Seaweed biology and cultivationM.Sc, first class in Botany/ Biotechnology/Biochemistry/ Microbiology. Fellowship – For CSIR-UGC/DBT/ICMR-JRF: Rs.16, 000/- PM + HRA; NET-LS: Rs.12,000/- PM + HRA; Non NET-JRF/LS Rs.12,000/- PM consolidated. Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) Young Researchers Award

The GBIF Governing Board has established the Young Researchers Award to foster innovative research and discovery in biodiversity informatics by graduate students in master’s and doctoral programmes at universities in GBIF Voting and Associate Participant countries1.

Eligibility and Award
Graduate students in a masters or doctoral programme at a university in a GBIF Voting Participant or Associate Participant Country1 are eligible to submit a proposal to the GBIF Young Researcher Award programme. This year, the programme intends to make two awards of 4000 Euros each, one to a master’s student and one to a doctoral student.
