Career Development Fellowship in Biomedical Science 2011 in Australia

These fellowships are available for any aspect of biomedical research or fundamental
research relevant to health. They are full-time fellowships and recipients would normally
be expected to work full-time on the development of their research careers during the term
of the award.

NHMRC is committed to identifying and supporting the best research and researchers in Australia. The NHMRC aims to achieve this by supporting the best and most relevant research. This commitment comes from the 2010 – 2012 NHMRC  Strategic Plan,
Objective 3 to foster medical research and training and public health research and training throughout Australia.

Selection Criteria Applicants must satisfy the Selection Criteria, which cover the following areas:

. Demonstrated research success relative to opportunity in terms of both seniority and field of research with reference to the levels of activity outlined in the classification statement for these positions (Appendix 1);

Research plans that are consistent with the aims of the scheme;

A supportive research environment with the facilities and infrastructure (including that of the Industry partner where applicable) needed to support the proposed research and career development plans.

Applicants are assessed by Peer Review Panels (PRPs) against the Selection Criteria and ranked against each other within their respective categories. In assessing an application against the Selection Criteria, PRPs take into account the quality of past achievements (especially academic record and any awards and prizes), the quality and impact of research work, the level of past research funding and the quality of the research proposal and proposed research environment. More detailed guidance on the application of these parameters is set out in the research performance descriptors at Appendix 2.
