2011 PhD Research Studentships at Loughborough University, UK: Sustainable Supply Chains and Organisational Resilience

Based on its excellent Research Assessment Exercise results in 2009, the School of Business and Economics is opening a new multidisciplinary research centre, The Centre for Organisational Resilience, and is seeking to recruit three research students to join the Centre’s vibrant postgraduate community. Three PhD Studentships are available for the July & October 2011 entries (see below), worth up to £13,590 (or any higher figure subsequently determined by EPSRC for its research studentships for 2011-12), plus tuition fees at the UK/EU rate.
The Centre for Organisational Resilience (COR) is seeking to recruit three research students to join its vibrant postgraduate community on three specific projects (one studentship per project): Sustainable Supply Chains and Organisational Resilience: A systems perspective . The proposed research will provide a holistic perspective of looking at the relationship between sustainable supply chains and organizational resilience by using systems thinking. The systems approach will take into consideration not only the various entities involved in sustainable supply chains but also the causal relationships between the factors that enable or prohibit implementing sustainable supply chains within today’s manufacturing environments. The research will also consider the human systems within the supply chain and how these can be modeled to create change and motivation towards implementing sustainable supply chains. The goal is to make manufacturing companies aware that they can become sustainable and resilient by implementing sustainable supply chain. This research will provide the thinking and the tools organizations to become resilient. This project will involve the successful candidate undertaking detailed fieldwork in businesses and with industry.
