2 Postdoctoral Research Positions: Atmospheric Chemistry-Climate Interactions, UK

Applications are invited for two post-doctoral researchers to undertake numerical modelling studies of the interaction between atmospheric chemistry processes and the climate system. One position will be based in the Department of Chemistry with Professor John Pyle and will focus on aspects of modelling the chemistry of the troposphere and stratosphere. The second will be based in the Department of Applied Mathematics with Professor Peter Haynes and will focus on dynamical interactions, including stratosphere-troposphere coupling. Both post-holders will be expected to interact strongly with the existing chemistry-climate modelling group in the Department of Chemistry.

Applicants should have (or be about to receive) a PhD in atmospheric science, physical chemistry, applied mathematics, or a related subject, and should have experience with numerical modelling in a research context.

Scholarship Application Deadline:15 April 2011

Australian Postgraduate Award in Fuzzy Spatial Temporal Climate Modelling, Australia: Sciences & Engineering

This scholarship is funded by an ARC Linkage-Projects grant working with Grain Growers Association and will provide support for 3 years on a full-time basis for a research project leading to a PhD. The objective of the research project is to develop a prediction model of seasonal rainfall and temperature based on fuzzy theory and data mining techniques.

Applicants should have an Honours 1 or 2A degree in Science, Engineering, Agricultural Science or Land and Water Science. Demonstrated experience in programming mathematical algorithms using command line or research level programming languages (R, Matlab, Java, Fortran or C) is essential. The scholarship stipend is $27,222 p.a. in 2011 (tax exempt).Applications, including a curriculum vitae, copy of an academic transcript, proof of citizenship or permanent residency, the names and contact details of at least two referees.

Scholarship Application Deadline: 28 February 2011
