The College of Engineering has EngD positions available for October 2011, funded by the Steel Technology Research and Innovation Partnership (STRIP). Applicants must have a good first degree in a subject relevant to their project of interest. Applications from graduates in Engineering, Science, Mathematics and Technology will be accepted. Due to funding restrictions, only students from the UK/EU are eligible to apply. These are Steel Training Research and Innovation Partnership (STRIP) funded positions, and include full fees plus an annual stipend of £16,600. Funds for other expenses, including conferences and fieldwork, are also available. Research projects available within this scheme are heavily linked with a variety of industrial partners, including the UK’s largest manufacturing company Tata. Full details of these specific projects can be found on the STRIP website from March onwards. The Steel Training Research and Innovation Partnership (STRIP) invests in the Welsh metals and manufacturing industry by training high calibre people from both an academia and industrial background in metallurgy, corrosion, coatings, manufacturing, mechanical properties and more. The EngD is a PhD level qualification that involves a taught component and a large, 4 year research project defined by and undertaken in industry.
