2011 CSC PhD Scholarships at Utrecht University, UK

The China Scholarship Council – Utrecht University PhD Scholarship Programme yearly offers PhD candidates from China the opportunity to start a PhD programme at Utrecht University on a 4 year scholarschip. Selection for this programme is undertaken by Utrecht University and by the China Scholarship Council, respectively. CSC deadline: 20 March and 31 May 2011. Following the 2007 agreement between the China Scholarship Council (CSC) and Utrecht University (UU) yearly a number of excellent Chinese candidates can come to Utrecht University to pursue a full PhD on a 4-year CSC scholarship of € 1200 per month. In general a PhD at Utrecht University takes 4 years. Qualified candidates from Mainland China in all disciplines conducting research at Utrecht University Partners (UUP)* are considered eligible. Applications from candidates who are not registered at one of the Utrecht University Partners are also welcome, but will not have a priority. Applications in the 15 Utrecht University Research Focus Areas, have a priority. This document contains information on the programme procedure. Attached to this document is an application format which can be used by the applicant to contact a Utrecht University or by a prospective Utrecht University supervisor to contact a candidate and to prepare for the CSC application. The attached application format is not the official CSC application form but will help the candidate and prospective Utrecht University supervisor to exchange necessary information before applying to CSC. 6 PhD Scholarships in Transport and Traffic Engineering at EU-Asia Road Safety Centre of Excellence

To enable successful applicants to study for PhD degree or Doctor of Engineering degree (Dr.-Ing.) at the newly established «EU-Asia Road Safety Centre of Excellence – RoSCOE.
Target Group: Highly qualified post graduates in transport and traffic engineering from Thailand and neighbouring countries.
Details of Scholarship
• Stipend of 300.00 Euro/month for 30 months
• Scholarship also covers university tuition fee
• Research visit for candidates to Europe
• 3 Doctoral degrees from Bauhaus-University Weimar and
3 PhD-degrees from the Prince of Songkla University will be offered to candidates, who have successful completed all the requirements of the said universities
• In addition to the degree, a special certificate will be provided to scholars, to certify that the degree was obtained in the framework of an international project
• Joint supervision of PhD/Dr-Ing. theses by professors from the following European and Thai universities:
• Bauhaus-University Weimar, Weimar, Germany
• Szechenyi Istvan University, Gyoer, Hungary
• Naresuan University, Phitsanulok, Thailand
• Prince of Songkla University, Hat Yai, Thailand
• Thammasat University, Bangkok, Thailand
• and the Asian Institute of Technology, located in Bangkok, Thailand
• Convening of monthly scientific seminars, dealing with significant road safety related aspects of infrastructure design
• Availability of free working environment at RoSCOE offices in Hat Yai or Bangkok (incl. PC, printer, internet connection and office supplies)
• Availability of specialized measuring equipment (e.g. radar equipment, video) for conduction of research studies
• In-house technical supports for conducting research studies by German staff at the “ Centre of Excellence – RoSCOE”
Subject of Theses
The PhD/Dr-Ing. theses of the six candidates will include but not limit to the following aspects of highway safety:
• functional design of road networks
• design of cross-section and road side safety
• horizontal and vertical alignment
• design of intersection
• road safety management / data sources and requirements for accident reporting system
• assessment of existing roads
Candidates are required to prepare a thesis on one of the above-mentioned or similar topics based on international standards.
Furthermore, candidates will summarise results and findings of their theses in suitable Thai design guidelines, rendering the knowledge available for practical application.
Requirements and Conditions
• Applicants must hold a Master`s degree in the field of transport and traffic engineering or equivalent, with a good to very good ranking (based on examination degree)
• English language skills are mandatory
• Able to conduct scientific work in an international team of researchers from Europe and Thailand at an office of the newly
established „ Road Safety Centre of Excellence – RoSCoE“ located in Hat Yai and Bangkok
• At least one letter of reference from senior academics (e.g. professor/ supervisor of master thesis)

HOMING PLUS Programme:Grants for Young Scholars, Poland: Bio, Info, Techno categories

The objective of the programme is to encourage young Polish scholars abroad to return to Poland. The programme is also open to young PhDs who are citizens of other countries but interested in spending a postdoctoral fellowship in Poland.

The programme is directed to persons who:
* hold at least a doctorate and are in the early stage of their academic career (up to 4 years after obtaining the doctorate*);
* have been abroad for an uninterrupted period of at least 9 months (conducting research, on a postdoctoral fellowship, or preparing a doctoral dissertation);
* intend to come to Poland within 6 months after the application deadline, or returning to Poland no earlier than 12 months prior to the application deadline; and
* work in Poland in a research unit or have received a promise of employment there for at least the duration of the project.
