University of Leeds, Research Scholarship in Business Management 2011 in UK

Up to 18 University Research Scholarships are available for UK and EU students for Session 2011-2012 for study in any Faculty at the University of Leeds.  Up to 2 awards are available in each Faculty.

  • Applicants MUST first submit a research degree study application form and be in receipt of a University BANNER ID Number(Student ID Number) to be eligible for a University Research Scholarship.  Applications without a valid University ID Number will be rejected.  To apply for a place on a research degree programme, please visit: These awards are only available to nationals from the UK and EU and are not open to applicants who are liable to pay academic fees at the international fee rate;
  • Applicants must hold a First Degree at undergraduate level equivalent to at least a UK Upper Second Class Honours degree.  Applicants should either have graduated with the appropriate First Degree or be in their final year of study;
  • Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the University’s English Language requirements.  Some Schools require a standard of English higher than the University minimum;
  • These awards are not open to individuals who have already been awarded a Doctoral degree.

REGULATIONS

These include the following (full information on the regulations will be sent to all successful applicants):

Awards must be taken up on 1 October 2011;

  • The awards are available for new research students undertaking full-time (3 years) or part-time (5 years) study leading to the degree of PhD.  Students who are already registered for PhD research study are excluded from this competition;
  • The award will cover academic fees at the UK rate and a maintenance grant of £13,895 for full-time study, part-time will be pro-rata.  There are no additional allowances for travel or research costs;
  • The award will be made for one year in the first instance and renewable for a further period of up to two years, subject to satisfactory academic progress;
  • Applicants must live within a reasonable distance of the University of Leeds whilst in receipt of this Scholarship.

Two Postdoctoral Positions, Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science, Republic of Korea: Simulation Studies for green Technologies

An immediate opening for Two Postdoctoral Positions to perform simulation studies for green technologies at Dr. Sang Soo Han’s lab (please see Chem. Soc. Rev. 2009, 38, 1460-1476; J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2008, 130, 11580-11581; J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2007, 129, 8422-8423; Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2007, 46, 6289-6292) in Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS)
The detail topics are gas adsorption (H2 storage and CO2 capture) in metal-organic frameworks, batteries, or metal nanoparticles.

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in Material Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or a related discipline, and demonstrate a record of prior research accomplishments. Also, the candidates must expertise in the development and application of quantum or atomistic simulation methods (DFT, MD, or MC) for the materials and molecular modeling. Experience with a multi-scale simulation method would be a plus.

Graduate Research Fellowship Program- at the National Institute of Justice, USA

NIJ’s Graduate Research Fellowship Program is an annual program that provides assistance to universities for dissertation research support to outstanding doctoral students undertaking independent research on issues related to crime and justice.

Objectives of the Fellowship Program
The NIJ Ph.D. Graduate Research Fellowship (GRF) program provides awards for research on crime, violence, and other criminal justice-related topics to accredited universities that support graduate study leading to research-based doctoral degrees. NIJ invests in doctoral education by supporting universities that sponsor students who demonstrate the potential to successfully complete doctoral degree programs in disciplines relevant to the mission of NIJ.

Award Details and Applying to the Fellowship Program
Topics of interest to NIJ under this program vary from year to year but students from any academic discipline may propose original research that has direct implications for criminal justice in the United States. NIJ encourages a variety of approaches and perspectives in its research programs. NIJ awards these fellowships in an effort to encourage promising doctoral students in the application of critical and innovative thinking to pressing criminal justice problems.
