PhD Positions in Supramolecular Organic Electronics, ISIS-UdS, Strasbourg: Chemistry and Material Science

Two Marie-Curie Early Stage Researcher (ESR; PhD) positions in “Graphene based Supramolecular Organic Electronics” are available at ISIS, University of Strasbourg (France) within the frame work of “GENIUS” Marie Curie Initial Training Network funded by the EU . We are looking for highly motivated graduate students with a strong background in one or more of the following fields: chemistry and materials science, surface science, solid state physics, supramolecular chemistry. A Master Degree in Chemistry or Materials Science and excellent command of English is required. Appointees can be nationals of any country other than the country of the premises of the host organization where they will carry out their project. However they must not have resided or carried out their main activity in the country of the host for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment. Africa Initiative Research Exchange Program for Canadian and African Students

The Africa Initiative exchange program supports short-term academic placements for Africans and Canadians undertaking research on Africa. The program is building capacity by giving bright, highly-motivated students and scholars an opportunity to discover and impart new learning in a cross-cultural experience. Supported research covers five thematic areas – conflict resolution, energy, food security, health, and migration, with special attention to the cross-cutting issue of climate change.

Participants have the opportunity to further their research through the utilization of on-the-ground resources and research materials, as well as to develop international networks with fellow researchers and practitioners conducting work in a relevant field of study. Research results are presented and disseminated through a variety of public channels.

Current programming under the Africa Initiative Exchange Program is divided into two streams:

1. Short-Term Academic Placements for Africans in Canada

The program is available to graduate students enrolled at Makerere University in Uganda. Participants are hosted at the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University and benefit from close ties with researchers at The Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI). The program is offered to up to five students per academic semester and each student spends four months in Canada conducting research and contributing to the Africa Initiative’s programs.

2. Africa Initiative Graduate Research Grant

The Africa Initiative’s Graduate Research Grant is designed to support relevant and unique research on Africa conducted by graduate students enrolled in a Canadian university. The grant is offered to up to fifteen recipients each year. Each recipient spends as many as three months in Africa conducting research funded by the program. Current programming is only open to Canadian students. Additional programming for African students will be announced in 2011.

PTDF Scholarship for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students 2011/2012, Nigeria

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund- PTDF is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for its postgraduate – MSc & PhD – Scholarships as well as Undergraduate, under the PTDF scholarship scheme for Nigerian students.

Eligibility Requirement
Only applicants who meet the requirements below shall be shortlisted and invited for Electronic Aptitude Test for Undergraduate and MSc, while oral interview will be conducted for PhD applicants on dates to be announced later.
Undergraduate student applicants must be in their 2nd year in any of the listed Nigerian Universities.
The Possession of a valid university admission letter is required of all PHD applicants.
PTDF will assist successful MSc/ Masters candidates in securing admission into suitable Universities (within and outside Nigeria).

Country of Study
Scholarships will be awarded for studies in the United Kingdom and upgraded Universities in Nigeria for the 2011/2012 session. However, the undergraduate level will be awarded for studies in Nigeria only.

PTDF however wishes to inform all its esteemed applicants that its Overseas Scholarship Scheme was instituted as a short term measure to address identified skills gaps, pending the outcome of the various capacity building efforts being made to enable the Nigerian universities effectively handle the onerous task of grooming qualitative professionals in the oil and gas related disciplines. With the numerous upgrade programmes executed by the Fund in some Federal Universities in Nigeria, the Fund intends to shift emphasis to training Nigerians in-country from next session. Consequently, only a limited number of candidates will be sponsored overseas and the rest in Nigerian Universities listed below.
