Marian D’Eve Memorial Scholarship at University of Canterbury, New Zealand: Education ,Communication Disorders/Audiology

These scholarships were established by the family of Dr Russell Smith and Marian D’Eve, following their tragic loss in August 2005. Both Dr Smith and Marian D’Eve were distinguished graduates of the University of Canterbury. A former graduate and staff member in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Dr Smith was involved in the establishment of HumanWare, one of Canterbury’s major electronics companies and with an international reputation for Braille and speech technology, screen-reading software and video-magnification solutions. Dr Smith was a member of the University of Canterbury Council and patron of the UC Foundation. In 2004, Dr Smith was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in recognition of his career dedicated to improving the lives of the visually impaired.
Marian D’Eve was an early childhood education specialist and author of a handbook for teachers. Also a graduate of the University, Ms D’Eve was a staff member at the Christchurch College of Education teaching early childhood education, with a passion for the education of children with special needs.
Eligibility:The Marian D’Eve Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a student who is studying, researching or developing aids for early childhood special needs education, in any discipline.

Delta / NTIO Joint Environmental Scholarship at University of Twente, Netherlands

To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates should hold strong credentials of:
·high devotion to the environmental protection and sustainable development of the earth
·Taiwan citizenship and regularly residing in Taiwan.
·an undergraduate degree received before the scholarship year from a Taiwanese academic institution accredited by the Ministry of Education of R.O.C.
· not currently working or studying in the Netherlands (not necessary for Doctoral applicants).
·proof of adequate English proficiency (a minimum test score of 213 in the computer-based TOEFL or 5.5 in IELTS).
Preference will be given to applicants with working experience in the environmental protection and sustainable development related fields.A scholarship of NT$250,000 each is offered to Master’s students and NT$500,000 for Doctoral students annually.Delta Electronics Foundation established the Delta/NTIO Joint Environmental Scholarship in 2005 to support and encourage advanced academic studies in fields relevant to environmental protection and sustainable development.

Postdoctoral Position in Photonic Integration, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden

The division of Semiconductor Materials conducts research on Photonic Integration, semiconductor nano-structures, and nano-structured materials including photonic crystals, covering basic physics, technology and applications. Major current research programs/centers in which the division is a partner include the “Linné center in advanced optics and photonics (ADOPT)”, EU-Network of excellence “Nanophotonics for energy efficiency – N4E” and the Nordic project “Semiconductor Nanowire solar cells – NANORDSUN”. The division also conducts research projects in collaborations with industries in the field of photonics.

The candidate should have a PhD in physics or engineering. The candidate should have a strong background and experience in one or more of the following areas: semiconductor materials, nanophotonics, integrated optics, and optoelectronics. Hands-on experience in semiconductor device processing, epitaxy, and optoelectronic/photonic device design and characterization is desirable. A successful candidate should possess excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English, and should be motivated to work in a team and should be willing to be involved in multiple projects at the same time. These qualifications must be highlighted in the application. The evaluation will be based on how well the applicant fulfills the above qualifications.
