Kurdish Studies PhD Studentship at University of Exeter, UK: political science, history, geography, sociology, language and literature, religious studies, anthropology, and gender studies.

Applications are invited by the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies for PhD studentships in the field of Kurdish Studies commencing in October 2011. The awards have been made available through a grant awarded to the Centre for Kurdish Studies by the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq. It is anticipated that up to three PhD studentships will be available for the 2011/12 academic year.

Your research project may be in any discipline of the humanities and social sciences as applied to the study of the Kurds and Kurdistan, including (but not limited to) political science, history, geography, sociology, language and literature, religious studies, anthropology, and gender studies.The studentships cover the cost of tuition fees (at the UK/EU or international level) and provide a maintenance grant of up to £12,600 a year. As part of the studentship, award holders will undertake 80 hours of work for the Centre per year during their period of registration.

ESRC Doctoral Studentships in Economic and Social History, University of Exeter, UK

The Universities of Bristol, Exeter and Bath have come together to form one of the UK’s largest Centres of postgraduate research training for social scientists in fields ranging from economics and human geography to history and psychology.The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) has granted doctoral training centre status to the collaboration. The South West Doctoral Training Centre (SWDTC) has been accredited to offer a hub of world-class social sciences research. As one of only 21 Centres in the UK, the SWDTC will be part of a national network to be launched in October 2011 that will train a new generation of social scientists. The SWDTC has been allocated 41 studentships per annum and the College of Humanities at the University of Exeter is pleased to be offering up to 2 ESRC 1+3 or +3 studentships in the area of Economic and Social History for 2011/12 entry.

For eligible students the studentship will cover UK/EU tuition fees and an annual maintenance grant (in 2011/12 this will be £13,590) for up to three years. For the 1+3 studentships we will require you to register for the MRes in Economic and Social History (Streatham Campus, Exeter).

MA Writing, Nature and Place Dean’s Scholarships at University of Exeter, UK

We are pleased to offer 3 scholarships worth £1,000 each for applicants demonstrating excellent writing skills for our MA Writing, Nature and Place at our Cornwall Campus, starting this October. This unique Masters programme investigates the history and practice of writing about the environment and will help you produce writing of outstanding quality as you develop an appreciation of how writers from Shakespeare to Heaney to Macfarlane have related, shaped and responded to the notion of place.In order to apply for the scholarship, you will need to submit a piece of original writing about nature and/or place between 500 – 2,000 words.
