Postdoctoral Fellowship in Global Change, USA: Earth and Planetary Sciences

The Johns Hopkins University invites applications for the Glenadore and Howard L. Pim Postdoctoral Fellowship in Global Change. This fellowship is part of a Global Change Science initiative within the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences.
We seek an outstanding individual with a recent Ph.D. who is pursuing interdisciplinary research in Global Change. Candidates whose research spans the physical sciences, social sciences, health sciences and/or public policy aspects of global change are preferred. Areas of interest include but are not limited to (1) fundamental processes driving global change; (2) the impact of global change on air quality, water resources, ecosystems, and/or human health; (3) remediation of the effects of global change; (4) energy resources; and (5) analysis of economic, sociological, public health, and policy implications of global change. Special consideration will be given to candidates who will collaborate with faculty from other Hopkins departments. Information on our department can be found at http://www.eps.jhu.edu. Fully Funded PhD Fellowships,K.U.Leuven Doctoral School Biomedical Sciences, Belgium

The mission of the K.U.Leuven International Doctoral School Biomedical Sciences (Belgium) is to train young biomedical researchers to explore the fundamentals of living systems at all levels – from gene to cell to body and mind – and to leverage that knowledge to improve human health. For 2011 we can offer up to 16 fully-funded PhD positions in the following doctoral school programs:
Cancer: 1 fellowship
Cell Signaling and Therapeutics: 1 fellowship
Cognitive and Molecular Neuroscience: 2 fellowships
Drug Design and Development: From Target to Market: 2 fellowships
Immunology and Microbiology: 1 fellowship
Mechanisms of Human Disease: 2 fellowships
Molecular and Developmental Genetics: 2 fellowships
Molecular and Stem Cell Medicine: 5 fellowships
These positions are fully funded for 4 years.
Successful applicants will perform doctoral research under the supervision of a promoter who is affiliated to one of the doctoral school programs. In addition, the doctoral training includes thematic education and encourages PhD students to develop transferable skills. PhD students are expected to finalize the doctoral training and research within a period of four years. Applications are invited from enthusiastic (under)graduates in any relevant biomedical area with an excellent study track record.

TWAS-icipe Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme, Kenya: Natural Sciences

TWAS-icipe Postdoctoral Fellowships in natural sciences are tenable for a minimum period of six months to a maximum period of twelve months at the departments of the International Centre for Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) in Kenya.

Eligible icipe departments: Fellowships are tenable at icipe in the Programmes of Animal Health, Human Health, Plant Health, Environmental Health, in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, in the Department of Behavioural and Chemical Ecology, in the Department of Entomology, and at the field station of Mbita, Lake Victoria, Kenya.
icipe will provide a standard monthly allowance which should be used to cover living costs, such as accommodation, food and health insurance. The monthly stipend will not be convertible into foreign currency.
The language of instruction is English.

Eligibility

Applicants for these Fellowships must meet the following criteria:
* apply for the TWAS-icipe Postdoctoral Fellowship within 5 years of completion of their PhD qualification;
* be nationals of a developing country (other than Kenya);
* hold a PhD degree in a field of the natural sciences;
* be regularly employed in a developing country (other than the host country) and hold a research assignment there;
* provide evidence that s/he will return to their home country on completion of the fellowship;
* not take up other assignments during the period of his/her fellowship;
* be accepted at an icipe department and provide an official acceptance letter from the head of the department (see sample Acceptance Letter) to this effect. Requests for acceptance must be directed to Lillian Igweta (see contact details below);
* provide evidence of proficiency in English;
* be financially responsible for any accompanying family members.
