King’s-ESRC Doctoral Studentships in Social Science, UK

ESRC studentships are available from the KISS-DTC for UK and EU students who meet residency requirements set out by the ESRC. Please consult the ESRC Postgraduate Funding Guide for full details on residential eligibility requirements.
Applicants for ESRC studentship funding must have applied for or already been accepted for admission to MPhil/PhD study in the social sciences at King’s, starting in 2011/12. While interdisciplinarity is a hallmark of research at King’s and we are keen to support social science research at the interfaces with the humanities, with the medical sciences, and with the natural and mathematical sciences, ESRC studentship funding is only available for projects that fall substantially (>66%) within the broad social and behavioural science remit of the ESRC.

ESRC studentship funding is highly competitive. In view of the limited number of awards and the very high standard of applications received, successful applicants are likely to have a very good first degree (BA or BSc Honours or equivalent), at first class standard (or upper second class with clear evidence of first class work), and typically also an appropriate Masters degree (at distinction or at least high merit level) and/or another appropriate qualification, such as prior professional or work-related expertise, relevant to your proposed area of study.

All admissions applications require two references to be submitted in support. Please ensure that your chosen referees are aware of the funding deadline, as we will be using these to help us evaluate your ESRC studentship application.
