2011 Postdoctoral Position in Computer Science, KTH- Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden

CSC is one of Sweden’s most advanced and successful research and education institutions in Information Technology situated at KTH and Stockholm University. The activities of the school focus on higher education and research within the traditional core areas of numerical analysis and computer science; from theory building and analysis of mathematical models to algorithm construction, implementation and simulation. Other core areas of growing importance are technology and methods for the support of human communication and computer mediated cooperation over distances in time and space. The applied research includes scientific computing, computer science, computer vision, robotics, neuroinformatics and neural networks, human-computer interaction, media technology and graphic arts, and communication through speech, language and music.

The successful candidate will join a team of researchers developing the PDC Parallel Environment, a programming and runtime environment for highly parallel applications that features adaptive runtime scheduling, online performance monitoring, and an expert system to analyze performance data. Within this framework several projects can be defined based on the background and interest of the candidate. Examples include programming models and languages for exascale, compiler extensions, operating systems, expert systems, programming of GPUs etc. The successful candidate is also expected to take leading positions in international projects (e.g. WP leadership in potential EC projects) and actively seek national and international project funding.

2011 Young Women in Public Affairs Award by Zonta International in USA

Established in 1990 by Past International President Leneen Forde, the Young Women in Public Affairs Award honors young women in secondary level or pre-university schools, ages 16 to 19, who demonstrate a commitment to leadership in public policy, government and volunteer organizations. The program operates at the Zonta club, district and international levels. Zonta clubs provide awards for club recipients, and district and international awards are funded by the Zonta International Foundation. District recipients receive US$1,000, and five international recipients are selected from the district recipients to receive awards of US$3,000 each.
Women of any nationality, who are pre-university or pre-college students (ages 16-19) living or studying in a Zonta district/region at the time of application and demonstrate evidence of:

* Active commitment to volunteerism
* Experience in local or student government
* Volunteer leadership achievements
* Knowledge of Zonta International and its programs
* Advocating in Zonta International’s mission of advancing the status of women worldwide
The application must start with a Zonta club. All application materials must be received at a Zonta club by the printed deadline. Zonta clubs select one application to send to the Zonta governor.

Talisman Vietnam Postgraduate Scholarship for International Students, Canada: Petroleum Geosciences,Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Physics, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Chemical and Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Natural Resources, Energy and Environment

With the objectives of contribution to enhancing quality of the local workforce in oil and gas industry of Vietnam, Talisman Vietnam Limited (TVL) is pleased to sponsor two full postgraduate scholarships for fall enrolment of academic year 2011 for Vietnamese professionals wishing to undertake a Master’s degree in petroleum related fields at the University of Alberta (U of A), Canada.

The scholarships aim to provide opportunities for postgraduate study at the U of A for young professionals in early or mid-career, who demonstrate both academic excellence and the potential to become leaders, decision-makers and opinion-formers in Vietnam.

Each scholarship provides tuition fee at the U of A, a stipend to cover living costs (for one person only) for maximum two years and return air travel to Vietnam (the return flight must be taken within three weeks of completion of the program of study).
3. Who is eligible to apply?
Applicants must:
• display intellectual ability and leadership potential;
• meet minimum English language standards – IELTS band score 6.5 (with not less than 5.0 in any skill) or paper based TOEFL minimum score of 550 (paper-based) or a total score of 88 with a score of at least 20 on each of the individual skill areas (internet-based).
• If you apply for MBA degree, in addition to the English Language skills evidence above, you need to provide either GMAT score minimum 600 (paper-based) or 100 (internet-based) with at least 20 on each of the individual skill area or GRE 1100 total (verbal 450 and quantitative 650)
and will normally be expected to:
• have a good academic record. Only candidates with an “excellent” (gioi or xuat sac – 8.0+) or “good” (kha – 7.5+) first degree will be considered.
• not already have received or be currently receiving financial benefit from a previous Government-Funded Scholarship;
• not already had the chance of studying in Canada or another developed country;
• not already been awarded a university doctorate from another academic institution;
• Industry experience would be a plus
