2011 Scotland’s Saltire Master’s Scholarship Programme: Creative industries, life sciences, technology, financial services and renewable and clean energy

Scotland’s Saltire Scholarships (SSS) is a substantial programme of scholarships, offered on a matched funding basis between the Government and Scottish Higher Education Institutions. The scheme offers up to 200 awards, each worth £2000, towards the tuition fees of a one year Masters course at any of Scotland’s higher education institutions.

The scholarships are designed to support the promotion of Scotland as a learning nation and a science nation and are therefore targeted at the priority sectors of creative industries, life sciences, technology, financial services and renewable and clean energy (find out what study options are available). The scholarships are available to students as part of a wider strategy to promote Scotland as a study destination and showcase Scotland’s higher education offering in international markets. This is the third year of the programme which was launched in January 2009, nearly 400 scholarships have been awarded to date.

International Master (M2) in Medical and Veterinary Entomology, West Africa

The sixth year of the International Master Degree in medical and veterinary Entomology (IME) will begin in September 2011 in Benin (West Africa).The scientific and educational objectives of the International Master of medical and veterinary Entomology (IME) are to develop a comprehensive training on research areas such as vector systematic, vector biology and ecology, population genetics, genomics and vector control.

Attend the IME, applicants must fulfil the following criteria :

1- Hold a BSc (Bachelor of Science) degree in the field of Life Sciences or equivalent diploma recognized by the University of Abomey-Calavi (Benin) and the University of Montpellier 2 (France).

2- Understand both French and English. A certificate of English and French proficiency or proficiency testing by phone may be requested.

3- Applicants may be requested to prove a source of reliable funding to cover costs throughout the IME training (see link)

Note : Students currently undertaking a MSc (Master of Science) degree are allowed to pre-register by specifying the expected date of graduation on their CV.

The IME’s professional objective is to optimise the preparation of future PhD students into the different options – public health, veterinary, teaching and research.

JRF for PhD in Life Sciences at Tata Memorial Centre, India

The Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) is an autonomous Grant-in-aid Institution of the Department of Atomic Energy. The TMC is comprised of the Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) and the Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH). The TMC conducts Ph.D. program in Life Sciences and is affiliated to the Homi Bhabha National Institute (Deemed University). On-going research at TMC includes basic and translational work in the field of Cancer Cell Biology. Specific research topics includes study of cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, metastasis, tumor immunology, immunotherapy, virology, chemotherapy and carcinogenesis, gene therapy in animal models, tumor markers, structural biology, proteomics, genomics, genetics and glycobiology.

Qualifications: M.Sc. (Applied Biology/ Biochemistry/ Biophysics/ Biotechnology/ Botany/ Life Sciences/ Microbiology/ Molecular Biology/ Zoology); M.Tech. (Bioinformatics/ Biotechnology); M.B.B.S.; from a recognized University, with ?60% aggregate marks. Those awaiting results may also apply.

Stipend: Rs. 16000/-+ 30% HRA (if hostel facility is not allotted) per month as applicable. Limited hostel facility is available on the ACTREC campus on first come, first served basis.
