PhD Position in Biochemistry, University of Lund, Sweden

PhD studies in biochemistry/biophysical chemistry. The project will focus on physical-chemical studies of protein interactions with other proteins and themselves (aggregation). The studies are aimed at characterization and quantification of energetics and kinetics of interactions and discovery of new protein-protein interactions and/or oligomeric species during a process of aggregation. The project will be conducted in close collaboration with theoreticians.

Eligibility/Entry Requirements

Basic entry requirements for PhD studies are: a degree at advanced level, courses to an extent of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 at advanced level, or corresponding proficiencies. Special requirements for this position: Master of engineering in chemistry or biotechnology, BSc, MSc or some other form of Master exam in biotechnology, chemistry, molecular biotechnology or corresponding education. Undergraduate and advanced courses in physical chemistry are obligatory, and also profound knowledge in mathematics. Priority will be given to applicants with previous experience in (for example through diploma work or project) of biophysical studies of proteins, protein aggregation or protein gels with spectroscopy methods.

Doctoral Studentship in Combustion Engines, University of Lund, Sweden: Energy Sciences

The Division of Combustion Engines works with next generation engines with less environmental impact. To actively do something about the global emissions of CO2 and other green house gases we need to find a more fuel efficient engine for our vehicles but at the same time we cannot allow local emissions to increase. Div. of Combustion Engines are world leading in the fields of HCCI and the subsequent PPC engine technology. To this highly dynamic research group we are currently looking for three Ph.D. students.

Eligibility/Entry Requirements
The general eligibility requirement for doctoral studies is a university degree of at least 240 ECTS credits, including at least 60 credits at an advanced level

Doctoral Studentship in Physics, Lund University, Sweden

The PhD project forms part of a larger project dealing with the spectroscopic investigation of chemical dynamics in liquids and solutions under the title: “Femtosecond Soft X-ray Spectroscopy of Matter under Realistic Conditions”. The aim is to drive the development of soft X-ray scattering of electron and configuration dynamics of biological relevant systems towards a routinely applicable method.

The technology employed is resonant spectroscopy at the K-edges of Carbon, Oxygen and other chemical relevant elements. This method is available only at accelerator based light-sources, mainly synchrotrons but also the new free-electron lasers. The PhD candidate will be enrolled at Uppsala University, but located at MAX-lab in Lund (Sweden). A part of the experimental work will most likely be performed at other places, e.g. at BESSY in Berlin or SLS/PSI in Switzerland.
