A full-time PhD Scholarship in Physics, Australia: High power beam conversion in diamond raman lasers

A full-time PhD scholarship is available in Physics, MQ Photonics Research Centre, at Macquarie University to be taken up in 2010 or for commencement during Semester 1, 2011 for a suitably qualified domestic or international candidate.
Successful applicants will join a growing team of researchers within the MQ Photonics Research Centre that aspire to make major advances in diamond lasers, micro-optical systems and nonlinear Raman interactions.
Applicants should have an honours degree in physics or optical engineering or equivalent, preferably specialising in optics and photonics.

A Macquarie University Research Excellence PhD scholarship, Australia: Modern history, ploitics, international relations

A Macquarie University Research Excellence PhD scholarship is available in the Department of Modern History, Politics and International Relations to work with Associate Professor Robert Reynolds. Reynolds is a recently appointed member of one of Macquarie University’s Concentrations of Research Excellence – Social, Cultural and Political Change. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue a PhD within this broad research framework (although Associate Professor Reynolds has particular expertise in the following areas of late 20th century Australian history: gay and lesbian history; the history of HIV/AIDS; trauma and the history of emotion; and an emergent interest in adoption and family history). Research topics in late 20th century American and British history will also be considered.

A Macquarie University Research Excellence PhD scholarship in Law – Legal Governance, Australia

The Legal Governance Concentration of Research Excellence (CORE) in the Macquarie Law School, Macquarie University, is offering up to two full time Macquarie University Research Excellence PhD Scholarships (MQRES) under the supervision of Professor David Weisbrot AM, the co-convenor of the CORE.

The successful applicant will join an innovative team of researchers at Macquarie Law School who are undertaking inter-disciplinary research on contemporary issues related to legal governance and public policy.

Applicants may pursue doctoral studies in one of the following areas:

  • the governance and ethical, legal and social implications of new medical technologies, especially genetics and nanotechnology
  • the changing nature of legal practice, and the implications for the regulation and organisation of the profession, as well as for education, ethics and professional responsibility
  • freedom of speech, expression and assembly
  • Pacific Islands legal systems, especially the interplay between customary law and western law
  • the nature, methodology and impact of modern institutional law reform agencies
  • information law, including privacy, freedom of information, secrecy laws, archives, and the handling of classified and security sensitive information
  • animal welfare law
