Pfizer Medical & Academic Partnerships Program, USA: Health Care

Pfizer is proud to present our Medical & Academic Partnerships program, which improves patient care and increases the safe and effective use of our medicines. Since the inception of the Medical & Academic Partnerships program in 1984, Pfizer has funded more than 1000 proposals. This program is a reflection of Pfizer’s commitment to advancing research, innovation, and medical education in Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Osteopathic Medicine, Pharmacy and Public Health.

Opportunities

Pfizer’s Medical & Academic Partnerships program provides financial support for fellows in a wide range of therapeutic and public health areas.
* Fellowships provide career-building opportunities for therapeutic clinicians and academic researchers in basic, outcomes, and patient-oriented research that are vital to improving healthcare.
* Public-Private Partnerships with organizations such as the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention help develop future medical leaders and drive advances in patient care.

Selection Process
Each Medical & Academic Partnerships award area has an independent academic selection committee comprised of leaders in the program’s field. This committee selects the recipients of these nationally competitive awards and helps shape the structure and scope of future programs to maximize their impact.

CEDAR Public Health Research PhD Studentships 2011, UK

Applications for PhD studentships in public health research within the Centre for Diet and Activity Research (CEDAR), a UKCRC funded Centre of Excellence in Public Health Research. The Centre is a collaboration between Medical Research Council Units in Cambridge and the Universities of Cambridge and East Anglia and is hosted by the Institute of Public Health in Cambridge.

We particularly seek candidates interested in the social and environmental determinants of physical activity and dietary behaviour and in population-based, interdisciplinary intervention research in this field. Students will be registered at the University of Cambridge or the University of East Anglia depending on their interests. The studentships within this multidisciplinary collaboration provide diverse training opportunities for all aspects of research and encourage the development of transferable academic and generic skills.

A number of three-year (‘+3′) studentships are available to commence in October 2011. These are for students who already have a Masters degree in epidemiology, public health or another relevant health or social science. It is possible that four-year (’1+3′) studentship(s) may also be available. If so, this would be for those without an appropriate Masters degree who will undertake the MPhil in Epidemiology or Public Health in Cambridge or the MRes in Environmental Social Science in Norwich during the first year of their studentship.

The minimum academic requirement for entry is a first or upper second class degree or equivalent. The studentships include college and university fees and a stipend. Full funding is available to UK nationals and UK residents. Partial funding is available to applicants from the European Economic Area (EEA).

Scholarship Application Deadline: 30 January 2011

Postdoctoral Research Associate in Biophysics on 3D STEM, USA

The  Microscopy Group in the Materials Science and Technology Division at Oak Ridge  National Laboratory (ORNL) has a postdoctoral position available. We are  developing 3D scanning transmission electron microscopy, a novel method for  obtaining three-dimensional structural information about biological samples.  The technology is based on the principles of confocal microscopy but provides  higher resolution with the use of an aberration corrected scanning transmission  electron microscope (STEM). 3D STEM is a unique alternative for electron  tomography with potentially improved capabilities. The project is a collaboration  between ORNL and Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). The position is  on 3D STEM imaging, deconvolution, and data analysis.

Scholarship Application Deadline: Applications may be submitted throughout the year, and appointments may begin at any time.
