The Colombo Plan – Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Singapore Postgraduate Scholarships 2011/2012: Civil Engineering, Safety, Health & Environmental Technology,Chemistry, Business (Financial Services)

In December 1977 the Colombo Plan for Cooperative Economic Development in South and Southeast Asia was changed to The Colombo Plan for Co-operative Economic and Social Development in Asia and the Pacific, to reflect the expanded geographical composition of its enhanced membership and the scope of its activities. The primary focus of all Colombo Plan activities is human resources development in the Asia-Pacific region. Over the years, the programme content of the Colombo Plan has been adjusted to respond to the needs of member countries in a fast changing economic environment. In the early years, the training programmes were more of a long-term nature whilst the current programmes are established to provide advance skills and experience sharing, aimed at arriving at the best practices in different fields of economic and social activities for effective policy making and governance.

The postgraduate programmes are taught in English.
Duration :The scholarship will be awarded for full-time study over duration of one year

Scholarship Up to 2 scholarships are available under this CPS – Singapore collaboration programme

Singapore Postgraduate Areas of Study Except in Medicine and Dentistry, candidates may pursue their Master Degree studies in areas of interest offered by the National University of Singapore (NUS), and the Singapore Management University.

Trek Excellence Scholarship, Canada: Medicine, Dentistry, Law, and Education (except NITEP)

Trek Excellence Scholarships are offered to students in the top 5% of each year in each undergraduate faculty or school. Domestic students receive an award of $1,500 and international students receive an award of $4,000. There are also awards of $1,000 given to international students in the top 5% to 10% of their year in their faculty or school.

Scholarship Application Deadline: There is no application required for Trek Excellence Scholarships. Students will be automatically considered based on grades for the prior session. Notification starts in mid-July and continues into September.

University of Exeter, Associate Research Fellow in Ecotoxicology of Manufactured Nanoparticles 2011 in UK

Peninsula Medical School, within the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry, is widely regarded as the strongest of the new medical schools in the UK. It has established an excellent reputation for high quality educational programmes and has a high quality and expanding research portfolio. From the outset the School has sought to build an international research reputation, to complement its innovative educational programme, through tight focus on areas of strength and exploitation of its pan-peninsula status.

Based within the European Centre for Environment and Human Health, you will assist in developing a major programme of research within the main areas of interest of the ECEHH including a) evaluation of the effects of environmental chemicals on human health b) effects of climate (change) and oceans on health c) opportunities for health improvement from the environment d) clinical photobiology.

You will study the bioavailability and biological effects of novel next generation nanomaterials on the environment and on human health, supported through close collaboration with physical scientists within the centre and a wider team of collaborating researchers across Europe. You should be educated to degree level or equivalent in a biological or environmental science, and will ideally have some experience in measuring sublethal biological endpoints, bio-imaging techniques, and/or working with cell cultures and aquatic organisms. A PhD in a biological or environmental science would be an advantage.

An enthusiastic interest in environment and human health issues and the ability to work well as part of a team would be an advantage. This is a fixed-term position until 31st December 2012. The post will be appointed to the University of Exeter and will be based in Truro. Please note that we are unable to apply for a Certificate of Sponsorship for this post.

Salary will be on the Associate Research Fellow scale of £24,273 – £27,319, with access to further contribution points rising to £30,747.
