TEAM Programme for MSc Students, PhD Students and Postdoctorals, Poland

The overall objective of the programme is to increase engagement of young scientists in research performed by the best teams and in the best laboratories in Poland. The projects may be carried out in one of the three main thematic areas: Bio, Info, Techno.

The programme is addressed to research teams’ leaders intending to engage students, PhD students or young PhDs (up to 4 years after the PhD) in the project. The students, PhD students and young PhDs must be selected in an open competition procedure that iscarried out on international level. The number of research team members selected trough such a competition should not be lower than 6.

The main evaluation criteria are the following:

* team leader’s scientific record as well as experience in implementing projects (achieved within the last 4 years),
* scientific or innovative quality of the projects, which will be realized by the selected team members.

The very important element to evaluate the projects is the planned international cooperation of the team (here the minimum guarantee of the intended future collaboration will be the letter of intent signed by the foreign partner, enclosed to the application form).

PhD Studentships in Arts, Humanities or Social Sciences 2011, UK: Gender Violence And Adult Learning In Post-Apartheid South Africa

This study will explore such initiatives through focusing on the case of South Africa. The PhD studentship aims to examine and reflect on how gender-based violence has been addressed through adult education initiatives in South Africa in the period of transition from apartheid to democratic government. The research has the following objectives:
•To examine and assess the history of adult education projects on gender-based violence in South Africa since c.1989.
•To understand through case study research how adult training programmes have addressed gender and violence, the institutional changes they have been able to effect, and the consequences for the lives of participants – trainers and trainees, and women and men.
•To consider the implications of this history for contemporary challenges associated with gender and violence facing societies grappling with transition from conflict.

The candidate is required to have an excellent academic track record, with an undergraduate degree in arts, humanities or social sciences, an MA in a relevant area, and demonstrated interest and experience in gender, adult education and international development. The studentship will entail a period of six months fieldwork in South Africa.
The PhD student will participate in the doctoral training programmes at IoE and Birkbeck, and will in addition benefit from research exchange and training opportunities within the London International Development Centre (LIDC) and the Bloomsbury Gender Network (BGN).

Three Sino-Danish PhD Scholarships Available within the Area “Water and Environment”

In collaboration with The Sino-Danish Center for Education and Research (SDC)* in Beijing, China, Aarhus University hereby offer three PhD scholarships within the following five topics:

1) Cereal crop productivity and nitrogen cycling under climate change

2) Influence of land-use and management on nitrogen leaching in two agricultural catchments in China and Denmark

3) Climate change effects on trophic dynamics in streams with special emphasis on the role of fish

4) Nitrogen dynamics in lakes and implications for trophic dynamics

5) Carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas emissions in wetlands

The PhD students will be enrolled at Aarhus Faculty of Science and Technology and at GUCAS (Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences) and receive a double degree from the two institutions. The candidates must be willing to stay at least 1 year in China during the PhD period. Chinese citizens are not eligible for the scholarships.
