Scholarship for PhD Student in Psychology, Uppsala University, Sweden

The project applies cognitive psychology to the question of how feedback and information should be designed to allow consumers of electricity to obtain as good control as possible of their electricity consumption. The research involves psychological laboratory experiments and computational modeling.

Qualifications: The applicant must have a basic university degree with psychology as a major subject.

Selection: The selection will be based on an assessment of the applicant’s aptitude for successful completion of graduate studies, made by the professors at the department. The bases for this judgment are the previously written research thesis, interviews (if deemed necessary), and finally, the plan for a research project.

Post-Master’s or Postdoctoral Research Associate in Computational Nonlinear Dynamical Systems, USA

The Center for  Engineering Science Advanced Research (CESAR) in the Computer Science and  Mathematics (CSM) Division of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks  candidates for innovative research in computational and theoretical nonlinear  dynamical systems.
Work will involve development of novel methodologies,  computer codes and algorithms to model the dynamics of semiconductor and fiber  lasers/amplifiers and laser arrays and their implementation on parallel  distributed multicore processor platforms. Successful candidates must have  proven experience in optics/lasers, nonlinear dynamical systems, and strong  computational skills. Programming skills in FORTRAN 95/2003 Linux and Windows  systems are desirable. The positions require MSc or, preferably, PhD degrees in  Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Theoretical  Physics, or related fields. Exceptional candidates with a BSc degree will also  be considered.

Scottish Overseas Research Students Award Scheme

This Scholarship award is designed to attract high performing overseas research students to Scottish universities. Each award covers the difference between the tuition fee for a UK/EU graduate student and that chargeable to an overseas graduate student. The SORSAS scholarship awards is Subject to satisfactory academic progress and are tenable for up to three years. The awards do not cover maintenance expenses.

All candidates who apply for a Scottish Overseas Research Students Award Scheme (SORSAS) and are unsuccessful, will automatically be considered for an Edinburgh Global Research Scholarship.

The University of Edinburgh will award 30 Edinburgh Global Research Scholarships in session 2011-2012 which like the SORSAS Awards will cover the difference between the overseas rate of fee and the home rate of fee.

Eligibility

The awards are open to overseas students undertaking a research degree and may be held in any field of study.

Applicants must be liable to pay tuition fees at the rate applicable to overseas students and must have already applied for admission to a full-time PhD research programme of study or currently be pursuing such a programme.
