PhD Studentship in the Institute of Physics, Technical University of Lodz, Poland: Theoretical/computational chemistry

A PhD student position is available in the Institute of Physics, Technical University of Lodz, Poland in the group of Prof. Katarzyna Pernal position to carry out the project “Accurate description of intermolecular interaction energies from extended random phase approximation”.

The position is in the field of theoretical/computational chemistry. The project involves development and coding of new quantum chemistry methods.

The position is financed via the program “Pomost” founded by the Foundation for Polish Science.

The Stipend’s amount: 3 500 PLN / month.

The stipend is free of tax. Neither health nor pension insurance is provided.

Maximum period of stipend agreement: till 30 September 2013.

A successful candidate will join the PhD program at the Department of Chemistry, Technical University of Lodz. After the “Pomost” contract expires the candidate will continue working towards the PhD degree as the graduate student receiving the stipend from the Department of Chemistry (the amount is decided by the department).

Profile of candidates:

· Full university degree (Master Degree or equivalent) in Chemistry or Physics.

· Computational and programming skills.

· Strong mathematical background.

· Good knowledge of quantum chemistry methods.

· Fluent spoken and written English.

Master’s Fellowship in Physics, Blaise Pascal University, France

Blaise Pascal University is opening the second year of its Master of Physics of Nanostructures to scientifically confirmed foreign students. In order to promote this event, the three best applications will have the Tuition Fees offered by the University. A scholarship of a total amount 2000 euros will be offered for the 2nd Semester if the 1st Semester is successful.

* Students having completed four years of University studies in Physics (Master 1st year successfully finished).

2011 Professor De Winter Scholarship at University of Twente, Netherlands

Applicants:

  • must be female
  • must be an excellent student
  • must be prepared to contact Mrs. De Winter to inform her about their study progress
  • must have completed the online application through the graduate website
  • must be admitted and nominated by the faculty involved
  • must be a future leader (of industry)
  • must be strongly committed to social society.
  • This scholarship for the academic year 2011/2012 is provided by Mrs. De Winter, the widow of Prof. ir. Herman de Winter. Professor De Winter was one of the founders of the research and education department of the former Technical College Twente. In 1969 he became the first career counselor of Technical Physics. Before that, he had already been appointed as professor in Technical Physics at the department of Electrical Engineering.
    Professor De Winter was always engaged with Technical Physics. Together with his wife, he was always interested in how ‘his’ students were doing. Professor De Winter died 7 October 2005. Mrs. De Winter is still very engaged with the University of Twente and expresses this by donating an annual €10.000 of which €7.500 is meant for awarding a scholarship.
