PhD Position in Intelligent Transport Systems, Sweden

This Ph.D student positions is a part of Chalmers Area of Advance in Transport. The vision in this area is to be among the internationally leading universities with regards to green, safe and efficient future transport systems. To achieve this, we are building on a wide range of disciplines and close connection between research and higher education and on an intense cooperation with industry and societal actors.

In response to the need for clean, efficient, safe and sustainable transportation the position invites applicants who are willing to contribute to the research area of advanced intelligent transport system design. Activities will involve research on;

• vehicle and vehicle flow modelling and analysis,
• efficient system design by optimal autonomous applications,
• detection and identification of relevant unattended events, failures,
• elaborate novel fault tolerant Intelligent Transport Systems.

The position aims at finding novel safe and optimal methods to nowadays most urgent claims against ITS by developing fault tolerant and energy efficient solutions. The applicant should have an interest in both academic and applied research to be successful. We invite candidates interested in ground transport and traffic applications to submit their application.

Applicants should hold an M.Sc. degree (civilingenjörsexamen) in, preferably, mechanical, electrical, control or transportation engineering resp. engineering physics or related fields.

Good analytical and communication (both oral and written) skills and ability to work independently as well as become an active team member. Excellent command of English language is needed.

Knowledge of software like MATLAB, VISSIM, C++ is an advantage. As PhD positions also involve taking part in the undergraduate education, and teaching activities in the B.Sc. programs are conducted in Swedish (English in M.Sc. programs), Swedish language is also an advantage.

Postdoctoral Fellow for the High Pressure Beamline, France: Physics, Chemistry

ID09A is currently one of the most advanced beamlines for structural investigations at high pressures. A well-equipped sample preparation laboratory, a Raman system and facilities for low and high temperature measurements and for laser annealing are available. Research is focused on the accurate determination of structural parameters at high pressures using angle-dispersive diffraction.

Qualification and Experience:
You must hold a Ph.D. in physics, chemistry or a related subject. You should be a good experimental scientist with experience in X-ray diffraction and high-pressure experiments using diamond anvil cells. Experience in crystallography and with synchrotron radiation is desirable.
Fellowship Application Deadline: 31 January 2011

The Erasmus Mundus Master Course (EMCC) in Ecohydrology

The  Erasmus Mundus Master Course (EMCC) in Ecohydrology  is a unique international master course focusing on a new vision for aquatic ecosystems restoration and long-term sustainability. The Ecohydrology approach was developed and have been refined within the International Hydrologic Program (IHP) of UNESCO. Actually its importance is recognized by the 193 counties composing the UNESCO General Conference, being “Ecohydrology for Sustainability” one of the five major themes of the Phase VII of the IHP-UNESCO.

The Ecohydrology EMMSc is supported by a consortium build on highly experienced Higher Education Institution (HEI) in this field, as the UNESCO Institute for Water Education (Delft, Netherlands), the University of Lodz (Poland), the University of Algarve (Portugal), the Christian Albrecht University of Kiel (Germany) and the National University of La Plata (Argentina). Several institutions, as Research and UNESCO Centers, from Europe, Latin America, Asia and Australia are associating to this course, contributing with advanced study courses and promoting students exchange.
