2011 King Faisal International Prize (KFIP), Riyadh: Service to Islam, Science, Medicine, Arabic Langauge and literature,Islamic Studies

The King Faisal International Prize (KFIP) has quickly established itself as one of the world’s most prestigious awards. This reputation could not have been accomplished without, firstly, the strict adherence to nomination and selection procedures to ensure that all the winners are selected solely on the basis of merit, and secondly, the continuous support of academic institutions both nationally and internationally Through the Prize, the King Faisal Foundation seeks to show its appreciation to those individuals who have rendered exceptionally outstanding services to Islam and Muslims, and to scholars and scientists who have made significant contributions and advances in areas that benefit developing and Islamic countries, and humanity at large.

Each year, Islamic organizations, universities and other learned circles throughout the world nominate individuals for any of the five categories of the Prize. The winners are usually announced in January, and receive their awards two months later in a special ceremony held in Riyadh under the auspices of the King of Saudi Arabia. This ceremony is one of the most important annual events organized by the King Faisal Foundation.

Brotherton Research Scholarships in Chemistry, University of Leeds, UK: Industrial science, preferably industrial chemistry

The Brotherton Research Scholarship was established in 1931. The fund was bequeathed by the late Baron Brotherton of Wakefield to be devoted to research in some branch of industrial science, preferably industrial chemistry.
Eligibility: Please read this information carefully, as your application form will be automatically rejected if you do not meet ALL of the eligibility criteria listed below.Applicants MUST first submit a research degree study application form and be in receipt of a University BANNER ID Number[1] (Student ID number) to be eligible for a Brotherton Research Scholarship.  Applications without a valid University ID Number will be rejected.  These awards are only available to nationals from the UK and EU and are not open to applicants who are liable to pay academic fees at the international fee rate. Applicants must hold a First Degree at undergraduate level equivalent to at least a UK Upper Second Class Honours degree.  Applicants should either have graduated with the appropriate First Degree or be in their final year of study. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the University’s English Language requirements.  Some Schools require a standard of English higher than the University minimum. These awards are not open to individuals who have already been awarded a Doctoral degree or equivalent qualification. Applicants must have attended a Leeds school for a period of at least 3 years immediately prior to entering university or higher education. Applicants must be children of British-born parents and must have been resident in Leeds for a period of at least 5 years.
