University of Exeter Foundation Scholarships for International Students, UK: Science, Humanities, Law, Social Sciences, Computer Science and Maths

The University of Exeter and INTO University of Exeter invite applications for the University of Exeter Foundation Scholarships. The scholarships have been created to assist international fee-paying students who need to complete a Foundation Programme before enrolling on a University of Exeter undergraduate degree programme.
The scholarships are available to all international students applying for the following  into University of Exeter Foundation pathways:
• Foundation pathway in Science Leading to an undergraduate degree in College of Life and Environmental Sciences
• Foundation pathway in Humanities, Law and Social Sciences Leading to an undergraduate degree in the College of Social Sciences and International Studies or the College of Humanities
• Foundation pathway in Computer Science and Maths Leading to a degree in the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences.
The Foundation programme commences in September 2011 and January 2012. Successful completion of the appropriate Foundation pathway (subject to meeting specified grades for entry) guarantees students progression onto a wide range of undergraduate degree programmes at the University of Exeter.

University Of Kent,Christine and Ian Bolt Scholarships Humanities or Social Sciences 2011 in US

The Christine and Ian Bolt Scholarships were set up in memory of Christine Bolt, Emeritus Professor of History at the University of Kent, and were generously funded by her late husband, Ian Bolt.

Scholarships of up to £10,000 each (to include tuition fees) will be offered for one year in support of a sustained period of research while in the USA. During this year the students must be registered on a full-time postgraduate degree by research at the University of Kent. In exceptional circumstances, the scholarship holders may be invited to re-apply for a further one year’s funding.

Scholarships are aimed at full-time postgraduate students whose area of research has an American element and/or where the centre of expertise or an important source of research material is located in the United States of America.

The purpose of the fund is to award scholarships to deserving students studying in the Faculty of Humanities or Social Sciences at the University of Kent to support a sustained period of research in America for up to one year. Preference will be given to students and to candidates who have not had the opportunity to live or study for an extended period of time in the USA.

University of Southampton, Scholarship in Social Science 2011 in UK

The Caroline Thomas Memorial Fund has been established to further research into human security in developing countries by supporting females of outstanding merit and research potential from the African continent who would otherwise not have the opportunity or financial resources to do undertake such work. The fund, which will be run as a charitable trust administered by the University of Southampton, will provide a scholarship to qualified students for a three year doctoral programme in the School of Social Sciences at the University of Southampton with its focus on any aspect of human security in a developing country context.

The fund has been set up in memory of the late Professor Caroline Thomas of the University of Southampton, who devoted her career to the plight of the poor and disadvantaged in developing nations. Caroline’s 1987 book, ‘In Search of Security: the Third World in International Relations’ was influential in changing the traditional approach to security issues. Security had previously meant only the military security of the state, but in proposing to broaden the agenda beyond its narrow focus on war and arms control, Caroline sought to include issues such as poverty, health and environmental degradation that confront the people of the developing nations, rather than their states.

Based within the Social Sciences at the University of Southampton, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary school with an international reputation and research expertise in political theory, comparative politics, global politics and international relations.

The fund, open for 2011 entry, covers the international fees and provides an annual stipend of £13,590 in respect of the candidate’s living expenses, as well as a research allowance of £2000.

Applications are competitive and will be assessed on the basis of academic merit and financial need. Applications will be accepted from female students from the continent of Africa, providing you are either a:

  • Graduate with a first or upper second class honours degree (or its equivalent)
  • Final year undergraduate student proposing to undertake postgraduate studies and who are expected to achieve a first or upper second class honours degree
  • Postgraduate with a Master’s qualification in a relevant field study.
