Postdoctoral Fellowship in Global Change, USA: Earth and Planetary Sciences

The Johns Hopkins University invites applications for the Glenadore and Howard L. Pim Postdoctoral Fellowship in Global Change. This fellowship is part of a Global Change Science initiative within the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences.
We seek an outstanding individual with a recent Ph.D. who is pursuing interdisciplinary research in Global Change. Candidates whose research spans the physical sciences, social sciences, health sciences and/or public policy aspects of global change are preferred. Areas of interest include but are not limited to (1) fundamental processes driving global change; (2) the impact of global change on air quality, water resources, ecosystems, and/or human health; (3) remediation of the effects of global change; (4) energy resources; and (5) analysis of economic, sociological, public health, and policy implications of global change. Special consideration will be given to candidates who will collaborate with faculty from other Hopkins departments. Information on our department can be found at http://www.eps.jhu.edu. 2011 Anneliese Maier Research Award for Outstanding Researchers from Abroad, Germany: Humanities and Social Science

Every year the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation grants up to five Anneliese Maier Research Awards funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research to outstanding researchers from abroad to promote research collaboration with specialist colleagues in Germany, contributing towards the further internationalisation of the humanities and social sciences in Germany.
The award amount is generally EUR 250,000 and is made available over a period of five years to finance research collaboration with specialist colleagues in Germany.
In addition to researchers who already number among the established leaders in their subject, the award is also aimed at researchers who are not yet so advanced in their scientific careers but who are already internationally established researchers from whom a sustainable shaping of the humanities and social sciences in Germany can be expected through the prospects of long-term collaboration. Particular importance is attached to the nomination of qualified female researchers.

TISS-Max Planck PhD and Postdoctoral Fellowships

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences and the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity, Göttingen, Germany are offering a limited number of Full- time Research Fellowships at both the doctoral (two nos.) and postdoctoral (one no.) levels for the 2010-11 academic year. These fellowships are to support advanced research in the field of “Urban Religion in Mumbai”. The research study should focus on ethnographic research on various religions and their practices in the Mumbai city. An important focus of the project will be the links between media-centered religious aspirations, including its transnational ramifications, and local political and economic ambitions. Ethnographic field research will pay close attention to the transnational circulation of religious media, plus uses of the internet, which now combines all forms of audio and audiovisual media. The goal is to arrive at a better understanding of how such media practices become part of the lives and aspirations in this challenging urban setting. Thematic Areas of Focus The doctoral fellowships are for a three-year period and the postdoctoral fellowship is for a duration of one year.
