Internships in Energy and Climate Change Research, University of Cape Town, South Africa: economics, environmental and geographical science, applied mathematics, policy studies or international relations, climate change mitigation

The Energy Research Centre at UCT undertakes multi-disciplinary work on energy policy andclimate change for a range of clients, from the of Cape Town, to national government, to the United Nations. We are currently doing ground-breaking research on ways in which the South African energy system can be made more climate-friendly. We are looking for one or two interns to assist us with these projects.

Candidates should be numerate, familiar with Excel, be able to write clearly and precisely (in English), be familiar with energy issues and technology, and be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
We are especially looking to attract black South African students, but all interested candidatesare strongly encouraged to apply.

Lulea University of Technology, PhD Position in Signal Processing, Sweden

The Signal Processing Group at the Department of Computer Science, Electrical and Space Engineering is looking for a new PhD student within the field of Measurement Systems Engineering. The topic of the research will be on the development of methods for on-line measurement and analysis of paper pulp properties and their connection to paper quality parameters.

We seek candidates with a MSc./Civ.ing. degree in Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering or similar areas, preferably with a strong interest and experience in mathematics, statistics, experimental design and signal processing. Previous experience in the design of measurement systems is also valuable. The collaborative nature of the project requires the student to be fluent in both Swedish and English, written and spoken.The application should include CV, university transcripts (tests/grades record) and contact details of at least two references.

2011-12 Community College STEM Scholarship Program by Virginia Space Grant Consortium in USA: Science, technology, engineering, or math

The Community College STEM Scholarship provides a one-year, non-renewable award of $1,500 for students enrolled full time (minimum of 12 credit hours) at one of Virginia’s Community Colleges. Students must be majoring in a science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) field and be interested in pursuing a career that supports NASA’s mission including careers in the aerospace sector.

Must be a U.S. citizen
Must be currently enrolled full-time in a Virginia Community College and have completed at least one semester of coursework (minimum of 12 credit hours) at time of application
Must be majoring in a STEM program of study
Must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

If an the scholarship recipient terminates his/her academic program during the 2011–2012 academic year, the Community College is required to return a prorated share of the scholarship award to the VSGC
