The Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture at MIT, USA

The Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture at MIT (AKPIA@MIT) is pleased to announce its postdoctoral fellowship program for the academic year 2011-2012. The fellowship program is intended for scholars with Ph.D. in any field related to architecture — including architectural, art, landscape, and urban history, design, technology, computation, urban planning, anthropology, and archeology — who are engaged in research on an Islamic topic. One to three fellowships will be granted. The fellowship duration can range from two months to a maximum of two semesters, or nine months, of residency, that will have to fall within the academic year. Fellows are expected to pursue their own research, give at least one public lecture, submit a substantial report on their research at the end of their fellowship to be electronically published by AKPIA@MIT, and participate in the program’s scholarly and academic activities during their stay at MIT. The fellowship award consists of monthly stipend not to exceed the amount of $3,100 (before taxes) per month and one roundtrip ticket for the fellow from his/her place of residence. Fellows will be responsible to find their own housing and health insurance during their fellowship period. AKPIA will provide library cards, email accounts at MIT, and a workplace in the AKPIA@MIT office that might have to be shared with another fellow.

Full Scholarships at Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, UAE

Full scholarship is available to qualified talented students who meet Masdar Institute’s high admission standards. The requirements are as follows:

1. A relevant undergraduate degree
Undergraduate degrees must be in the fields of science, engineering, or information technology

2. High CGPA from a recognized university
The minimum CGPA for consideration of admissions is 3.0 on a scale of 4.0

3. High GRE scores
The minimum score required on the GRE Quantitative for consideration of admissions is 700.
There is no cut-off score for the Verbal and Analytical but these scores are also important and evaluated. The GRE exam cannot be waived.

4. High TOEFL (or academic IELTS)
The minimum TOEFL score required is 91 (IBT) on the international TOEFL. The minimum academic IELTS score is 6.5. The TOEFL/IELTS can only be waived for native English speakers (e.g., Native American or native UK students, etc.).

Students accepted into the Masdar Institute will be offered a full scholarship which includes the following:

* 100% tuition fee scholarship
* Textbooks
* Laptop
* Medical Insurance
* Housing
* International students will receive reimbursement for travel expenses (economy class air-ticket) into Abu Dhabi and back home after completion of studies. Travel expenses (return economy class air-ticket) back to the student’s home country at the end of the 1st year of studies will also be reimbursed.
* Reimbursement of TOEFL and GRE exam fees (upon registration at Masdar Institute and submission of original receipts)
* A competitive stipend per month (cost of living allowance) which is currenlty set at 4,000AED.

The scholarship and benefits are subject to the student maintaining a minimum CGPA as determined by Masdar Institute of Science and Technology and satisfactory progress on their research.

TWAS-BIOTEC Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme 2011, Thailand: Biotechnology

TWAS-BIOTEC Postdoctoral Fellowships are tenable in BIOTEC and its affiliated research units for a period of twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) months and are awarded to young scientists from developing countries (other than Thailand) to enable them to pursue advanced research in the biotechnology.
* BIOTEC will provide a standard monthly allowance which should be used to cover living costs, such as accommodation and food.
* The language of instruction is English.

Eligibility
Applicants for these fellowships must meet the following criteria:
* Be nationals of a developing country (other than Thailand).
* Hold a PhD degree in any of the following fields: molecular biology, molecular genetics, microbiology, biochemistry, biotechnology and bioinformatics and related disciplines.
* Apply for the fellowship within five years of having obtained a PhD degree in the fields indicated above.
* Be regularly employed at a research and/or teaching institution in their home country where they must hold a research assignment.
* Provide an official Acceptance Letter from BIOTEC. Requests for acceptance must be directed to BIOTEC Research Unit Coordination Division (e-mail rucd [at] biotec.or.th) who will facilitate assignment of a host supervisor.
* Provide evidence of proficiency in English.
