2011 University of Manchester Research Impact Alumni Studentships, UK

The University of Manchester is offering doctoral studentships to support alumni or current masters degree students to undertake PhD studies commencing September 2011 in one of the eligible ‘Research Impact’ priority research themes. The studentship offers up to £48,000 per studentship.

The criteria include: Applicants must be currently studying for a masters degree at or a recent graduate of The University of ManchesterOnly applicants who graduated from The University of Manchester within the last 4 years may apply for this award .Research projects must be related to on the University’s priority research themes and in one of the areas covered by the research interests of Manchester business school.Applicants also need to meet the entry requirements for admission to the PhD programme at Manchester Business School and have the support from the prospective supervisor(s) in Manchester Business School. The selection is by school nomination process. Candidates wishing to be considered as a Manchester Business School nomination must submit a full PhD application by the closing date. In addition, they should send the hard copy of the ‘Research Impact’ application form with the prospective supervisor statement section completed.

University of Manchester Equity and Merit Scholarships: Business and Management, Engineering, Life Sciences, and Development

In 2010-11, the University has 76 Bangladeshi students enrolled on courses: 43 undergraduates and 33 postgraduates. Subject areas being studied include Business and Management, Engineering, Life Sciences, and Development. The University of Manchester is pleased to invite applications for a total of five scholarships for postgraduate taught Masters starting in September 2011. The scholarships are intended to support students from Bangladesh who would not otherwise be able to study in the UK. The selection process is managed on behalf of the University by British Council in Dhaka. The scholarships cover full tuition fees, return international airfares and living expenses. Awards are available in a range of subjects including science and engineering, textiles, medical and life sciences, education and the environment.
Eligibility: The scholarships are aimed at applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds. Applicants should:

  • Be a resident citizen of Bangladesh and have not previously studied or worked abroad;
  • Be aged below 35 years at the time of application;
  • Have an honours/degree and a Masters degree from a public university (including national and open universities) with a minimum overall score of 70% for science and engineering subjects, and 55% for arts and social sciences; candidates with a minimum overall score of 70% in a Bachelor degree in textiles are eligible to apply; candidates who have studied for either an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at a private university are not eligible to apply;
  • Have an overall IELTS score of 6.5 ((Please note, MA Education; MA TESOL; Environmental Impact Assessment & Management; Planning; and Urban Regeneration and Development all require IELTS 7.0);
  • Be committed to returning home and able to demonstrate the potential to make positive impact on the future of Bangladesh;
  • Have a clear idea how studying in the UK would benefit both his/her career and Bangladesh as a whole.

    University of Manchester Excellence and Opportunity Scholarships in Management Studies, UK

    2 scholarships: £35,600 each (full scholarships). These scholarships have been generously funded by an anonymous MBA alumnus who would like others to have the same opportunity to benefit from the Full-time MBA experience.
    Eligibility: Open to British permanent residents. Mature applicants (i.e. without a degree can be considered). To be considered, you need to be a British permanent resident (i.e. with unlimited leave to remain in the UK) and also have been ordinarily resident in the UK (i.e. the UK is your main place of residence) for a consecutive period of three years prior to the start of the Full-time MBA programme (30 August 2011).
