2011 Jae My Postgraduate Scholarship in Korean Studies, University of Sydney, Australia

In order to promote and encourage research on Korean Studies, the Jae My Holdings Pty Ltd has established the Jae My Postgraduate Scholarship in Korean Studies at the University of Sydney. The Scholarship will provide 3 years of support for a full-time PhD student doing research on a topic in the humanities and social sciences in Korean Studies.Applicants should have an excellent honours degree or MA in Korean Studies (or equivalent). Those awarded a scholarship must enrol as full-time PhD students, and pursue research in the Department of Korean Studies within the School of Languages and Cultures, Faculty of Arts at the University.

The scholarship stipend is $20,000 per year (tax exempt). The period of tenure is up to three years. Extension of the scholarship is not permitted. The Scholarship does not cover tuition fees, so international students will need to find other sources to fund their tuition.

PhD Scholarship in Experimental Fluid Mechanics, University of Sydney, Australia

The Faculty of Engineering & IT of the University of Sydney, Australia, invites applications for a PhD position beginning in August 2011. The purpose of the project is to explore the interactions of the atmospheric boundary layer in complex terrains (topography and surface heterogeneity) with wind turbines. The successful candidate will carry out experimental studies (using stereo-PIV, tomo-PIV and hot-wire anemometry) in the 25-m long Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel of the School of Civil Engineering. The successful applicant will join a team that aims to develop and validate turbulence models that will be used to predict and study the effects o f complex atmospheric boundary layers on wind turbine wakes.
Applicants should have a Master in Engineering or Physics (or equivalent) and experience in at least one of the following areas: Wind Tunnel Testing, PIV, Atmospheric Boundary Layer, or, Wind Turbine Aerodynamics.The scholarship stipend is valued at $25,000 per annum (tax exempt) for up to three years. A tuition fee scholarship of up to A$ 30,000 per annum is also being offered if tuition fees are payable.

Postdoctoral Fellowship, University of Sydney, Australia: Humanities and Social Sciences

The fellowship program, directed by Professor Margaret Levi of the United States Studies Centre and the University of Washington, is designed to bring to Sydney a cohort of the world’s rising scholarly leaders working on the United States in the humanities, social sciences and related professional disciplines.

The Centre will award up to six Fellowships for a 12-month period commencing on 1 September 2011. Fellowships are open to scholars who have a PhD awarded no earlier than 1 January 2004 as well as doctoral students who will be awarded their PhDs by the end of 2011.

Fellows are expected to be in residence and to complete a major research project as well as to engage with students and scholars in Sydney and around Australia during the fellowship period. Salaries commence from AUD $86,269 and will be commensurate with experience and current employment.
