Fellowships to Outstanding Indian Nationals in the Field of Culture, India

Ministry of Culture invites applications from Indian Nationals for the award of Fellowships to Outstanding Persons in the field of Culture for the year 2010-11.

The Fellowships are awarded for undertaking research oriented projects. While both the academic research and performance related research are encouraged, the applicant should provide evidence of his/her capabilities in undertaking the project.

The Fellowships are not intended for providing training, conducting workshops, seminars or documenting memoirs/or writing autobiographies/fiction etc.

A total of 400 Fellowships will be awarded for a maximum period of two years, out of which :

a) 200 are Senior Fellowships having a value of Rs.20,000/- per month for artistes in the age group of above 40 years
b) 200 are Junior Fellowships having a value of Rs.10,000/- per month for the artistes in the age group of 25-40 years.
c) Age will be reckoned as on 1st April, 2010.
d) Applicant for Senior Fellowship should not be a recipient of pension from this Ministry under the scheme for grant of financial assistance to artistes in indigent circumstances. The applicant should not have availed of the same Fellowship earlier. However an applicant who had been awarded a Junior Fellowship can apply for a Senior Fellowship, provided 5 years have elapsed after the closure of the earlier project.
e) Applicants who are employed will have to apply through proper channel.
f) Under the Senior and Junior Fellowships, the awardees will submit six-monthly progress reports. In cases where such reports are not received on time, the Ministry may withhold further releases of the Fellowship amount.
g) The selected candidates will have to undertake academic or application oriented research work on projects for which they have been awarded the Fellowship. They will complete their projects within two years and submit the same to the Ministry. Extension of time by a maximum of three months will be permissible without any additional financial liability to the Government.
h) A mid-term review/assessment of the performance in each case will be carried out after one year and further continuance of Fellowship will depend on such review/ assessment.
i) Graduation is the minimum educational qualification for applicants in the fields/areas listed in para II (b) of the Scheme (but not for other fields/areas listed in para II(a) of the Scheme

Postdoctoral/Research Fellows in Philosophy, Australia

The School of Philosophy, Research School of Social Sciences, Australian National University, seeks to appoint three research-only Postdoctoral/Research Fellows (Level A/B). The Fellows will be appointed in association with projects directed by Professors David Chalmers (on consciousness and related topics) and Daniel Stoljar and Frank Jackson (on philosophical progress).

Two of these positions are associated with the Centre of Consciousness, directed by Professor David Chalmers and one of the positions is associated with the Philosophical Progress grant, just awarded to Professors Frank Jackson and Daniel Stoljar by the ARC.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in philosophy or a related discipline prior to appointment, and should specialize in the philosophy of mind or language, metaphilosophy, metaphysics, epistemology, or cognitive science. Appointment will be for up to three years. The School will consider proposals to fill the positions by secondment from other institutions, and particularly welcomes applications from female candidates.

Position Dimensions and Relationships:
The appointees will facilitate links and partnerships across the University, and nationally and internationally, building on the School’s reputation. The appointees will provide links to other areas with cognate interests across the ANU, where appropriate.

The appointees and are expected to participate fully throughout the year in all aspects of the academic life of the school, including attending school seminar programs, School, Research School and College meetings, and actively engaging in the governance of the School, Research School and College.

Role Statement:

* The conduct of research in philosophy related to the Philosophical Progress Project and the Centre for Consciousness with the productions or contribution to the production of conference and seminar papers and publications from that research;
* Involvement in professional activities including, subject to availability of funds, attendance at conferences and seminars in the field of expertise;
* Some administrative functions primarily connected with the area of research of the academic;
* Distinguished contribution to supervision of PhD students and other HDRs in these areas
* Actively participate in the intellectual life of the School of Philosophy.
* Other duties as consistent with the classification of the position.
