Postdoctoral Research Associate in Biophysics on 3D STEM, USA

The  Microscopy Group in the Materials Science and Technology Division at Oak Ridge  National Laboratory (ORNL) has a postdoctoral position available. We are  developing 3D scanning transmission electron microscopy, a novel method for  obtaining three-dimensional structural information about biological samples.  The technology is based on the principles of confocal microscopy but provides  higher resolution with the use of an aberration corrected scanning transmission  electron microscope (STEM). 3D STEM is a unique alternative for electron  tomography with potentially improved capabilities. The project is a collaboration  between ORNL and Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). The position is  on 3D STEM imaging, deconvolution, and data analysis.

Scholarship Application Deadline: Applications may be submitted throughout the year, and appointments may begin at any time.

The Ramsar Convention’s International Grants Fund 2011: Conservation of Wetland Resources

The Ramsar Small Grants Fund (SGF) was established in 1990 as a mechanism to assist developing countries and those with economies in transition in implementing the Convention and to support the conservation and wise use of wetland resources, with a strong human and social dimension. From 1991 to 2009 the Fund has provided a total of 7.7 million Swiss Francs to 234 projects from 108 countries, providing up to 40,000 Swiss Francs (about US$40,000) per project.

Each year a rigorous evaluation procedure is carried out by the Ramsar Secretariat to assess the project proposals according to the strength of the project design, their relevance to the Convention’s objectives, and the capacity of the proponents to complete the project successfully.
