Vrije University Brussel-Scholarships, Belgium: Biology

The Vrije Universiteit Brussel annually awards yearly a number of scholarships for advanced studies at Master or Advanced Master level. The selected scholarship programmes are characterized by the integration of education and research and a Master’s thesis. They cover at least one year of study and depending on the field of study some programmes may take two years.

Duration of the scholarship
Depending on the programme, scholarships have a maximum duration of 12 months for one-year programmes or 24 months for two-year programmes. Scholarships start earliest on 16 September of the reference year (X) and end latest 20 September (X+1) for one-year programmes and 20 September (X+2) for two year programmes. Scholars who fail their exams will not be entitled to extend the duration of their scholarship. If scholars participating in a two-year programme obtain less then 60 ECTS (credits) at the end of the first year, they will have their scholarship aborted, unless university authorities decide otherwise.

Postdoctoral Fellowship, University of Sydney, Australia: Humanities and Social Sciences

The fellowship program, directed by Professor Margaret Levi of the United States Studies Centre and the University of Washington, is designed to bring to Sydney a cohort of the world’s rising scholarly leaders working on the United States in the humanities, social sciences and related professional disciplines.

The Centre will award up to six Fellowships for a 12-month period commencing on 1 September 2011. Fellowships are open to scholars who have a PhD awarded no earlier than 1 January 2004 as well as doctoral students who will be awarded their PhDs by the end of 2011.

Fellows are expected to be in residence and to complete a major research project as well as to engage with students and scholars in Sydney and around Australia during the fellowship period. Salaries commence from AUD $86,269 and will be commensurate with experience and current employment.

Postdoctoral Position, Tsinghua University, China

Postdoctoral Position available to study the epigenetic mechanisms for maintenance of telomere/centromere chromatin identity by using Drosophila and mammalian cell culture at Dr. Guanjun Gao’s lab at
Tsinghua University in China (EMBO J 29(4):819-829, 2010; PNAS 106(26):10728-10733, 2009; PNAS 105(37):13999-14004, 2008).
Eligibility: Recent Ph.D.s with strong background in molecular & cellular biology, biochemistry, or genetics are encouraged to apply. Prior experiences in protein purification, CHIP, epigenetics or proteomics are desirable but not required. The salary is highly competitive and commensurate with experience.
