Post Doctoral Scholarship in a Teaching Hospital

This fellowship is tenable in association with a gastroenterological unit (medical, surgical or paediatric) in a teaching hospital, research institute or university department that has demonstrated interest in research into health and disease related to the broad field of gastroenterology, hepatology and related disorders. Applicants must hold a higher degree.

The major conditions and the stipends for this fellowship are assessed according to the qualifications and experience of the Applicant.

Eligibility:

The Applicant is required to:

• Read, understand and agree to all the requirements listed in the 2010 Instruction booklet.

• Be a current financial member of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia, defined as “being a financial member of the society for at least one year prior to application for this award”;

• Hold a relevant postgraduate research degree (MD, PhD or equivalent) or have submitted their thesis at the time of application;

• Be not more than five (5) years from the awarding of their postgraduate research degree and wish to make their career in Australia undertaking research in an Australian academic institution;

• Be recognised as having the potential to be an independent investigator committed to full-time research in gastroenterology/hepatology;

The Joyner Scholarships in Law, Medicine and Science

Applications for 2011 entry will open in early September 2010

The Joyner Scholarships in Law, Medicine and Science have been established to encourage postgraduate and other advanced research of original or progressive nature leading to advancement of knowledge in any branch or aspect of law, medicine or science.

Awards will normally only be available to those who: are Australian citizens; or have been granted permanent resident status; and have completed at least four years of tertiary education studies at a high level of achievement and have an appropriate Honours 1 (or equivalent) undergraduate degree; and are enrolling as full-time students; and will commence a Masters by research or Doctorate by research in the year of the award; and have had their candidature accepted in the area in which they propose to undertake their studies.

The highest ranked postgraduate research scholarship applicants intending to undertake research higher degree study in law, medicine and science at Flinders University are generally nominated for the Joyner Scholarships. These applicants compete with highly ranked postgraduate research scholarship applicants from the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia for one scholarship each in law, medicine and science.

The scholarships pay an indexed stipend which is 10% above the Australian Postgraduate Award rate for law and science students, or 10% above the NHMRC Medical Postgraduate Scholarship rate include a Research Training Scheme place, which provides an exemption from tuition fees and generous allowances and leave provisions.

Postgraduate Scholarship for Israel and Australian

Applications for 2011 Fellowships close on 6 August 2010 for both Israeli and Australian students.

The Foundation established an award for postgraduate students in Australian and Israeli universities to undertake part of their research for their PhD in matching institutions in Israel and Australia. The award, AU$5,000 for a period of up to six months, has been awarded to twelve Australian and Israeli students. The funds for this award have come from private donations.
