Scholarship at The Walter Mangold Trust Fund

Purposes of these Scholarships:

The Walter Mangold Trust Fund (“the Trust”) has been established to further the belief that better understanding between peoples, and consequently lessening of conflict, can be achieved by improving communication between them.  The study of languages, and as a consequence the culture associated with each language, is one way to attain those outcomes.  The history of the establishment of the Trust can be viewed at www.mangoldtrust.org.au.

One of the objects of the Trust is the provision of educational scholarships to enable young Australians to spend a period of time in a foreign country, with the intention of furthering the education, communication and understanding between peoples and cultures.

2.         Eligibility:

The Trust has funds available to provide scholarships for a number of young Australian undergraduates and graduates to study abroad for a period from three (3) months to up to one (1) year.The grants are restricted to applicants who are residents of Victoria.

For grants for study to be undertaken in 2010, the Trust will be giving priority to applicants who will be studying in the Indonesian, Japanese, Chinese or Spanish languages.

The amounts available in this grant round range from about $5,000.00 to a maximum of $20,000.00 for any specific grant.

Applicants must:

  • be enrolled in an award course in a tertiary institution in Victoria:
  • have attained second year level language competence in the language to be studied by the time that they propose to undertake study abroad;
  • be engaged in full-time study;
  • submit a program of study;
  • be supported by references as to capacity and character;
  • undertake a course of study abroad at a tertiary level or other level acceptable to  the Trust;
  • demonstrate that part of the costs of their program of study will be defrayed by the applicant, or from third party sources;
  • demonstrate how the publication or public lecture requirement (see note below) will be accomplished.

Applications will open on 1 September 2010 and close on 1 October 2010. The 2010 Guidelines and Application form will be posted on this site in mid August 2010.

Post Graduate Scholarship at The Sugar Research and Development Corporation

The Sugar Research and Development Corporation (SRDC) invites applications for three Postgraduate Scholarships to foster training in technical and social disciplines relevant to SRDC’s research priorities.  Information on SRDC’s research priorities is available in the SRDC R&D Plan 2007-2012. This document may be obtained from the SRDC website.

SRDC encourages applications from current industry participants and from new participants in sugar industry R&D.  Scholarship Project Proposals may be for PhD, Masters, Graduate Diploma or Graduate Certificate level courses.  SRDC will consider applications of candidates that hold other available bursaries. SRDC will also consider part time scholarships for course work.

Scholarships are open to citizens and/or permanent residents of Australia, and are for students intending to commence study in 2011. Scholarships provide $26,000 stipend and $6,000 towards operating costs or fees per year for up to three years of full time study, and $1,000 for thesis publication costs.  For course work scholarships SRDC will provide fee support in lieu of operating funds.

SRDC will short-list applicants in October 2010.  If short listed, you will be required to take aptitude and psychometric tests, make a short presentation and be interviewed in the months of October and November. Scholarship awardees will be advised early in December 2010.

Applications using the Scholarship Proposal Form must be submitted electronically as an email attachment to apply@srdc.gov.au by 3 September 2010. Only applications using the correct Proposal Form will be accepted by SRDC.

The Joyner Scholarships in Law, Medicine and Science

Applications for 2011 entry will open in early September 2010

The Joyner Scholarships in Law, Medicine and Science have been established to encourage postgraduate and other advanced research of original or progressive nature leading to advancement of knowledge in any branch or aspect of law, medicine or science.

Awards will normally only be available to those who: are Australian citizens; or have been granted permanent resident status; and have completed at least four years of tertiary education studies at a high level of achievement and have an appropriate Honours 1 (or equivalent) undergraduate degree; and are enrolling as full-time students; and will commence a Masters by research or Doctorate by research in the year of the award; and have had their candidature accepted in the area in which they propose to undertake their studies.

The highest ranked postgraduate research scholarship applicants intending to undertake research higher degree study in law, medicine and science at Flinders University are generally nominated for the Joyner Scholarships. These applicants compete with highly ranked postgraduate research scholarship applicants from the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia for one scholarship each in law, medicine and science.

The scholarships pay an indexed stipend which is 10% above the Australian Postgraduate Award rate for law and science students, or 10% above the NHMRC Medical Postgraduate Scholarship rate include a Research Training Scheme place, which provides an exemption from tuition fees and generous allowances and leave provisions.
